The effect of medical biodegradable magnesium alloy in vivo degradation and bone response in a rat femur model with long-term fixation
CONCLUSION: The in vivo experiments showed that the corrosion resistance of the TRC-30 m/min implant was better than that of the TRC-10 m/min implant. After 32 weeks of implantation, there were no pathological changes in the liver, heart, or kidney of rats in the TRC-30 m/min group, and the cell structure was normal.PMID:36744330 | DOI:10.3233/BME-222514

Promoting improved utilization of laboratory testing through changes in an electronic medical record: experience at an academic medical center
This case study over time describes five years of experience with interventions to improve laboratory test utilization at an academic medical center. The high-frequency laboratory tests showing the biggest declines in order volume post intervention were serum albumin (36%) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (17%). Introduction of restrictions for 170 high-cost send-out tests resulted in a 23% decline in order volume. Targeted interventions reduced mis-orders involving several “look-alike” tests: 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, 25-hydroxyvitamin D; manganese, magnesium; beta-2-glycoprotein, beta-2-microglobulin. Lastly, target...

Obstetric knowledge of nurse-educators in Nigeria: Levels, regional differentials and their implications for maternal health delivery
Conclusion: Nurse/midwife educators in Nigeria are not as knowledgeable as previously thought, especially concerning the causes of maternal mortality. In order to scale up the quality of obstetric care, updated pre-service curricula should be implemented fully while in-service appraisal and continuing education should be introduced.

Optimized osteogenesis of biological hydroxyapatite-based bone grafting materials by ion doping and osteoimmunomodulation
CONCLUSION: The doping of active inorganic ions is a reliable strategy to endow BHA-based biomaterials with osteoimmunomodulatory property and promote bone regeneration. Further studies are still in need to explore more ions and their effects in the crosstalk between the skeletal and immune systems.PMID:36245367 | DOI:10.3233/BME-221437
