Prevalence of neck pain and its associated factors in Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis protocol
Discussion This will be the first systematic review and meta-analysis to systematically identify and synthesise available literature on the prevalence of neck pain and its associated factors in Africa. The results of this review may assist health professionals and policymakers to plan and implement evidence-based strategies that will lessen the burden of neck pain. Ethics and dissemination Data from previously published studies will be collected and analysed and hence ethical approval will not be sought for this study. The results of this review will be disseminated through publication in a peer-reviewed academic journal ...

Supportive care needs of patients who had a stroke: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Incidences of stroke are on the rise and approximately 80 million stroke survivors worldwide live with disabilities. Supportive care needs of stroke survivors are not adequately defined, and the assessment tools to help care service providers identify these needs are unclear. The overall aim of this scoping review will be to map the supportive care needs of stroke survivors against the Supportive Care Needs Framework. Methods and analysis This scoping review will be conducted following Arksey and O’Malley’s methodological framework and Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) updated methodological guidance ...

Perspectives of cardiac rehabilitation in patients who had a stroke: a protocol for a qualitative study review
Introduction Stroke has a high incidence and disability rate, and its recurrence and readmission rates are rising, making it the second-leading cause of mortality in the globe. Cardiac rehabilitation is a well-known, evidence-based strategy that might serve as an additional preventative programme. Prior quantitative research has proven the positive results and high practicability of cardiac rehabilitation for patients who had a stroke, however, cardiac rehabilitation is not yet a routine component of stroke rehabilitation worldwide. It might be useful to conduct meta-integration of previous qualitative studies to understan...

Role of optical coherence tomography in depression detection: a protocol of systematic review and meta-analysis
This study aims to employ a systematic review and meta-analysis approach to explore ocular biomarkers measured by OCT for detecting depression. Methods and analysis We will search studies describing the relationship between OCT and depression across seven electronic databases, and retrieve articles published from database inception to date. We will also manually search grey literature and reference lists included in the retrieved studies. Two independent reviewers will screen studies, extract data and assess risk of bias. Target outcomes will include peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer thickness, macular ganglion cell...

Health literacy among adolescents and young adults in the Eastern Mediterranean region: a scoping review
Conclusion Health literacy levels were low-to-moderate in adolescents and young adults in the EMR. To promote health literacy, it is recommended to use school-based health education and attempt to reach adolescents and young adults through social media platforms. More attention should be paid to refugees, people with disabilities and those exposed to violence.

Well-being focused interventions for caregivers of children with developmental disabilities: a scoping review protocol
Discussion The proposed scoping review will give an extensive review of interventions aimed at improving the well-being of caregivers of children with DD. This scoping review would provide recommendations on interventions that have significantly improved the well-being caregivers of children with DD. Additionally, the review would guide future work on intervention development and primary research in this field. Registration This scoping review protocol has been registered with the Open Science Framework (https://osf.io/tkbrh).

Physical activity interventions implemented for older people in sub-Saharan Africa: protocol for a scoping review
The objective of this scoping review is to summarise the evidence on the feasibility and effectiveness of PA interventions that have been implemented among OP to address PA levels, blood pressure, blood glucose levels, cognitive function, quality of life and body mass index in SSA. Methods and analysis The Joanna Briggs Insitute (JBI) methodology will be followed for this scoping review. An electronic search of PubMed, EBSCOhost (Academic Search Premier AfricaWide Information, CINAHL, Health Sources Premier Academic/Nursing), Scopus and ProQuest (grey literature) will be done from 2010 onwards to identify reports of rando...

Improving employment outcomes for people with disability in small and medium enterprises: protocol for a scoping review
In conclusion, the scoping review protocol will synthesise and report the results (Stage 5) and provide information on consultation with relevant stakeholders during the initial protocol specifications (Stage 6). Ethics and dissemination Since the scoping review methodology aims at synthesising information from available publications, this study does not require ethical approval. We will submit an article reporting the results of the scoping review for publication in a scientific journal, present the findings at relevant conferences and disseminate them as part of future workshops with professionals in disability employment.

Smoking cessation interventions for US adults with disabilities: protocol for a systematic review
Introduction People with disabilities have a higher prevalence of cigarette smoking than people without disabilities. However, little information exists on smoking cessation interventions tailored to address the unique needs of people with disabilities. This paper describes a systematic review protocol to identify and evaluate tobacco smoking cessation interventions designed to improve outcomes for people with disabilities. Methods and analysis We will conduct a systematic review of the literature using the procedures outlined by Cochrane. We will search four electronic databases (CINAHL Plus (EBSCO), Embase (Ovid), Medli...

Barriers and facilitators of physical function, activity, sports and exercise in children and adolescents with spinal pain: a protocol for a systematic review and meta-ethnography
Introduction Spinal pain is one of the leading causes of disability, with the incidence of adolescent back pain estimated at 20%. Multiple barriers influence exercise participation in adolescents. However, there remains a lack of literature surrounding patients’ choice to exercise, perceived barriers and facilitators of exercise, and their relationship to participant demographics. The aim of this systematic review with meta-ethnography will be to identify the barriers and facilitators of exercise participation among adolescents with thoracic or lower back pain (LBP). The secondary aim will be to identify any trends i...

Global evidence of gender equity in academic health research: a scoping review
Conclusions Reviewed literature suggest a lack in analytic approaches that consider genders beyond the binary categories of man and woman, additional social identities (race, religion, social capital and disability) and an intersectionality lens examining the interconnection of multiple social identities in understanding discrimination and disadvantage. All of these are necessary to tailor strategies that promote gender equity. Trial registration number Open Science Framework: https://osf.io/8wk7e/.

Assistive technology, information asymmetry and the role of brokerage services: a scoping review
Conclusions Access to impartial information brokerage is critical to optimise AT selection. The implications of information asymmetry include lower user satisfaction, equipment underutilisation or abandonment. Aspects such as access to demonstration sites and web-based resources were also important.

Aetiological and prognostic roles of frailty, multimorbidity and socioeconomic characteristics in the development of SARS-CoV-2 health outcomes: protocol for systematic reviews of population-based studies
Introduction There is growing evidence that the impact of COVID-19 crisis may be stronger for individuals with multimorbidity, frailty and lower socioeconomic status. Existing reviews focus on few, mainly short-term effects of COVID-19 illness and patients with single chronic disease. Information is also largely missing for population representative samples. Applying population-based approach, the systematic reviews will have two objectives: (1) to evaluate the aetiological roles of frailty, multimorbidity and socioeconomic status on SARS-CoV-2 infection probability, hospitalisation, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, me...

Protocol for scoping review study to map out the existing research in relation to post-traumatic stress symptoms among caregivers of individuals with neurodevelopmental, psychiatric and neurocognitive disorders
Introduction The challenges of providing caregiving that impacts the caregiver have been attributed to high levels of intensity and physical strain, burden and distress. This is likely to include emotional and psychological distress as manifested in post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS). As this is a new area of investigation among caregivers of individuals with neurodevelopmental, neurocognitive and psychiatric disorders, the extent of the literature for PTSS in these groups of caregivers is limited and unclear. This scoping review aims to map the existing research focusing on key concepts and identifying gaps in relation...
