Abstract 244: Why Registries Matter: Impact of a Comprehensive Telestroke Data Collection Process on Clinical Quality Improvement Poster Session II
Introduction: Evaluating patient care within a telestroke network is challenging due to lack of appropriate data. The AHA/ASA’s Target Stroke helps address QI programming in larger hospitals, typically PSCs, but may not be appropriate for smaller facilities that lack specialty knowledge and data collection tools. Telestroke has only heightened this need for smaller facilities to measure and track performance to ensure quality care. Goal: In an effort to narrow this disparity and incorporate similar data-driven QI projects in our partner sites and therefore network as a whole, the Providence Telestroke Network sought ...

Abstract 232: Comparison of Different Management Strategies for Acute Myocardial Infarction: A Multivariable Network Meta-analysis Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Primary PCI is the preferred approach for treatment of STEMI. Our analysis suggests that a pharmacoinvasive approach may be more effective and safer as compared to facilitated PCI and thrombolytic therapy.

Abstract 312: Anatomic Runoff Score Predicts Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients with Lower Extremity Peripheral Artery Disease Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: After adjustment for clinical factors, the LE-PAD anatomic runoff score, age and indication for procedure were the most significant predictors of future cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in a broadly-representative patient population undergoing revascularization for symptomatic PAD. The use of a clinically useful anatomic scoring system, if validated, may assist clinicians in risk-stratifying patients during the course of clinical decision-making.

{beta}-Blockers and Cardiovascular Events in Patients With and Without Myocardial Infarction: Post Hoc Analysis From the CHARISMA Trial Original Articles
Conclusions— β-blocker use in patients with prior MI but no heart failure was associated with a lower composite cardiovascular outcome driven by lower risk of recurrent MI with no difference in mortality. However, β-blocker use was not associated with lower cardiovascular events in those without MI, with a suggestion of inferior outcome with regard to stroke risk. Clinical Trial Registration— URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT00050817.

Patients' Preferences in Anticoagulant Therapy: Discrete Choice Experiment Original Articles
Conclusions— Patients’ preferences for various outcomes of anticoagulant therapy vary and depend on their previous experiences with myocardial infarction or stroke. Incorporating these preferences into benefit risk calculation and treatment decisions can enhance patient-centered care.

Abstract 144: Cost of Cardiovascular Disease Episodes among Patients with Hypertension Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: Cost estimates of CVD episodes among hypertensive patients are consistent with results from the scarce literature in this area. Moreover, our study finds evidence of increased medical resource utilization weeks before the recording of the CVD episode. Omitting these pre-event costs leads to an underestimate of the true costs of CVD.

Increased Risk of Adverse Neurocognitive Outcomes With Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin-Kexin Type 9 Inhibitors Original Articles
Conclusions— Our analysis suggests that PCSK9 inhibitors are not associated with an increased risk of cumulative severe adverse effects, musculoskeletal effects, or stroke. There is a signal toward adverse neurocognitive effects, seen in the outcome studies with a larger sample size and longer follow-up. There should be close monitoring, for the increased risk of neurocognitive events in the ongoing outcome studies and post-marketing surveillance.

Abstract 234: Participation in a Virtual Community and Its Impact on Quality of Life and Perceived Support Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Virtual networks are an evolving and a useful way to engage people. Understanding whether patients, loved ones, and caregivers perceive support, experience improved QOL after participation in, and are satisfied with a virtual community experience may provide evidence to inform ongoing development of the SN and confirm its value to these individuals. We found significant improvement in support and broad satisfaction with such an experience. More research is needed on the impact of virtual support networks.

Abstract 204: Cardiovascular Mortality and Non-fatal Cardiovascular Events After Diagnosis of Acute Aortic Syndrome Session Title: Poster Session PM
Conclusions: AAS is associated with a higher overall mortality and an increased risk of any first time CV event, first time MI and HF that persists beyond the acute phase. These data highlight the risk of CV events among those with AAS and implicate the need for long-term cardiovascular management in these patients.

Abstract 199: Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone System Polymorphisms-based Risk Score In Resistant Arterial Hypertension And Adverse Cardiovascular Events: The Genhart-rio SubStudy Poster Session II
Conclusion: RAH determines an increased risk for a composite of stroke and AMI. A RAAS stratified genetic score identifies hypertensive subjects at increased risk for adverse cardiovascular events. (NCT01173029)

Abstract 203: Outcomes Comparison of Low Risk Medical and Surgical Patients Treated with Unfractionated Heparin vs. Enoxaparin Poster Session II
Conclusions: In low-risk medical and general surgical patients, UFH was as effective as enoxaparin in the prevention of thromboembolic events, with no difference in the incidence of HIT. When compared to UFH, enoxaparin was associated with lower MI and mortality rates, and shorter LOS and ICU LOS, at the expense of higher rates of stroke and TIA. Enoxaparin was associated with lower total inpatient costs than UFH.

Abstract 358: Annual Quality of Care Evaluations of Cardiac Surgery in British Columbia Poster Session III
Conclusion: Presenting quality of care indicators annually has raised awareness of outcome rates and variations which existed across the province. The annual process of engaging surgeons in the evaluation process and linkage with other administrative databases to obtain outcome data has been associated with a reduction in use of RBC transfusion and instigated further investigations into regional variation in mortality rates. The addition of new indicators and other risk-adjusted analyses in the future may further improve quality of care in cardiac surgery in BC.

Abstract 151: Outcomes Associated With Prophylactic Amiodarone Protocol in Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery: A Single Center Experience Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: Implementation of an amiodarone prophylaxis protocol order care set was associated with greater utilization of amiodarone. It was also associated with a modest decrease in the incidence of STS-defined POAF, stroke and MI but was not associated with a change in 30-day mortality in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Further studies are needed to study the cost-effectiveness and risk-benefit analysis of routine amiodarone as prophylaxis.

Abstract 249: Economic Outcomes for Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome Managed with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention and Receiving Prasugrel or Ticagrelor: A Retrospective US Hospital Database Analysis Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: Economic outcomes of ACS-PCI pts receiving pras were similar to ticag for the primary population with significant savings in total and medical costs for pts without prior TIA or stroke. These data indicate that ticag has no economic advantage compared with pras in routine clinical practice.
