Abstract 223: Impact of Differences in Once- vs Twice-Daily Medications Adherence on the Risk of Bleed and Stroke in Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation: Analysis of Randomized Trials and Claims Data Sources Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: Among NVAF patients, better adherence to QD dosing was associated with a significantly lower stroke risk of QD but similar risk of bleed.

Abstract 10: Pre-stroke Antithrombotic Therapy and Stroke Severity in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients with Atrial Fibrillation Session Title: Abstract Oral Session: Outcomes
Conclusions: A majority of AF patients presenting with AIS are not on guideline recommended anticoagulation or are not therapeutic on their anticoagulation. Even when strokes occurred on therapeutic warfarin or a NOAC, the strokes were less severe. These findings highlight the huge opportunities to further improve proper use of oral anticoagulants in eligible AF patients.

Abstract 203: Preventing Stroke in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation: A Review of Published Interventions to Aid Patient Decision Making Session Title: Abstract Poster Session II
Conclusion: Interventions designed to aid patient decision making around stroke prevention in AF improved a selection of patient-centered outcomes. Given the availability of multiple NOACs and an implantable device for stroke prevention in AF, there is a need to develop and evaluate new patient decision support tools.

Abstract 152: Persistence of Warfarin versus Dabigatran Therapy in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation: Results from the ORBIT AF Registry Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: Persistence rates for warfarin were higher at one year than those on dabigatran. In addition, factors associated with persistence of warfarin include: African American and Hispanic race, type of AF including permanent and persistent, LVH, and CHA2DS2-VASc risk scores ≥ 2.

Does Sex Affect Anticoagulant Use for Stroke Prevention in Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation?: The Prospective Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD-Atrial Fibrillation Original Articles
Conclusions— These contemporary global data show that anticoagulant use for stroke prevention is no different in men and women with nonvalvular AF. Thromboprophylaxis was, however, suboptimal in substantial proportions of men and women, with underuse in those at moderate-to-high risk of stroke and overuse in those at low risk. Clinical Trial Registration— URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT01090362.

End of Study Transition From Study Drug to Open-Label Vitamin K Antagonist Therapy: The ROCKET AF Experience Original Articles
Conclusions— The excess of events at EOS was likely because of a period of inadequate anticoagulation in rivaroxaban participants switched to vitamin K antagonist therapy. If transition from rivaroxaban to vitamin K antagonist is needed, timely monitoring and careful dosing should be used to ensure consistent and adequate anticoagulation.
