Antidepressants and the Risk of Ischemic Stroke in Older Adults According to the Degree of Serotonin Reuptake Inhibition: A Retrospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: The use of strong and intermediate SRIs should be considered carefully in older adult patients, especially when high-dose antidepressants are prescribed even for a short duration.PMID:37562992 | DOI:10.1016/j.jagp.2023.07.013

Brain and Cognition Signature Fingerprinting Vascular Health in Diabetic Individuals: An International Multi-Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: Cognitive decline significantly elevates the risk of diabetic vascular complications and is correlated with retinal and renal microcirculation damage. Cognitive screening tests are strongly recommended as routine tools for management of diabetes.PMID:37230837 | DOI:10.1016/j.jagp.2023.04.010

Strengths and Weaknesses of the Vascular Apathy Hypothesis: A Narrative Review
Am J Geriatr Psychiatry. 2022 Oct 1:S1064-7481(22)00526-7. doi: 10.1016/j.jagp.2022.09.016. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe vascular apathy hypothesis states that cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) can cause apathy, even when no other symptoms of CSVD are present. In order to examine this hypothesis, the objectives of this narrative review are to evaluate the evidence for a pathophysiological mechanism linking CSVD to apathy and to examine whether CSVD can be a sole cause of apathy. The nature of the CSVD-apathy relationship was evaluated using the Bradford Hill criteria as a method for research on the distinction betw...

Association of Arterial Spin Labeling Parameters With Cognitive Decline, Vascular Events, and Mortality in a Memory-Clinic Sample
CONCLUSIONS: Higher baseline GM-sCoV of ASL was associated with a decline in memory and risk of cerebrovascular disease and vascular events, suggesting that cerebrovascular insufficiency may contribute to accelerated cognitive decline and worse clinical outcomes in memory clinic participants.PMID:35871110 | DOI:10.1016/j.jagp.2022.06.007

Does Low Subjective Social Status Predict Cognitive Decline in Chinese Older Adults? A 4-Year Longitudinal Study From Hong Kong
CONCLUSION: Cognitive decline is influenced by self-perceived rank in proximal reference groups rather than socioeconomic comparison with society at-large. SSS-Community is a useful, single-item supplementary instrument to improve prediction of cognitive decline in elderly Chinese.PMID:33563520 | DOI:10.1016/j.jagp.2021.01.014
