Abstract 20: The Effect of Resistance Training on Survival and Cardiovascular Outcomes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Session Title: Poster Session Reception: Young Investigator Award Semi-Finalists
Conclusion: RT is associated with lower all-cause, CV and all-cancer mortality. RT appears to have an additive effect when combined with AE.

Abstract 245: Assessing Patient Knowledge and Satisfaction Following Stroke Video Education Session Title: Poster Session PM
Conclusions: Based on this preliminary data, stroke patients enjoy video education in clinic. However, as patients in both groups were highly satisfied, it remains unclear whether video education increases overall satisfaction. Highly educated patients may bennefit from video education, but further enrollment will clarify this. A positive correlation between post-visit test score and satisfaction indicates that clinics should prioritize patient education.

Abstract 24: Acute Cardiac Care in China: A Needs Assessment Session Title: Concurrent Session IIIA: Oral Abstracts - Policy
Conclusion: The delivery of care for acute cardiac event in the two cities were suboptimal. Interventions are urgently needed. In particular, a holistic approach including the promotion of public knowledge, improvement in frontline health workers’ training and support, as well as enhancement of data registry and monitoring are necessary.

Effect of a Computer-Guided, Quality Improvement Program for Cardiovascular Disease Risk Management in Primary Health Care: The Treatment of Cardiovascular Risk Using Electronic Decision Support Cluster-Randomized Trial Original Articles
Conclusions— In Australian primary healthcare settings, a computer-guided quality improvement intervention, requiring minimal support, improved cardiovascular disease risk measurement but did not increase prescription rates in the high-risk group. Computerized quality improvement tools offer an important, albeit partial, solution to improving primary healthcare system capacity for cardiovascular disease risk management. Abstract 265: TeleStroke: Expanding Access and Coordination of Care from Acute Stroke to Follow-up Session Title: Poster Session II
The objective of this study was to develop a novel pathway for follow-up care after inpatient admissions for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) utilizing the existing telestroke infrastructure, with the goals of improving quality outcomes, reducing patient costs, and increasing access to care. Methods: Utilizing LEAN methodology, the existing care model was process-mapped to assess for potential areas of improvement. Over one month in 2013, a convenience sample of 27 inpatients admitted with AIS were surveyed to assess for potential barriers associated with travel to appointments, as well as for attitudes towards utilizing tele-he...

Abstract 204: Efficacy of Mirror Therapy Combined with Afferent Stimulation on Motor Impairment, Motor Function, and Daily Function in Chronic Stroke: A Randomized Controlled Trial Poster Session II
Conclusions: The MT+MG group specifically demonstrated superior benefits on manual dexterity and ambulation function over the MT group. Both MT+MG and MT treatments showed significant benefits on the reduction of motor impairment. However, MT+MG and MT protocols did not yield extra benefits on daily function. Future studies might include functional task practice to enhance generalizability of the treatment effects to daily function in patients with various severities of motor impairments. The retention effect of MT + MG needs further investigation.

Abstract 215: Differing Perspectives Between Physicians, Patients And Caregivers On The Value Of An Individualized Estimate Of The Benefits Of Thrombolysis At The Time Of Acute Ischemic Stroke: Designing The Resolve (Rapid Evaluation for Stroke Outcomes using Lytics in Vascular Event) Decision Aid Poster Session II
Conclusions: Preliminary findings suggest reluctance by emergency physicians to share data about the benefits of rt-PA to stroke patients and their caregivers, despite the desire of the latter for such information. While the additional planned interviews will be needed to confirm these findings, preliminary insights suggest a compelling need to overcome the reticence of emergency physicians to use clinical data to better engage patients in making a shared decision about rt-PA in AIS.

Abstract 219: What factors influence the decision to refer patients to a stroke center in an Emergency Medical Service Dispatch Center? Poster Session II
Conclusion: in our study 26% of callers were referred to a SC, age and delay influenced this decision. Enforced implementation of recent recommendations and standard training in stroke recognition will improve EMS pathways to SC.
