Sleep hygiene strategies for individuals with chronic pain: a scoping review
Conclusion This scoping review examined the existing literature focusing on sleep hygiene strategies for people with chronic pain. There are limitations to the methodology of the existing literature and gaps in our understanding of sleep hygiene strategies in some chronic pain conditions that must be addressed in future research before the effectiveness of these strategies can be understood.

What is the relationship between physical activity and chronic pain in older adults? A systematic review and meta-analysis protocol
Introduction Chronic pain is highly prevalent in older adults and can cause functional limitations, negatively affecting health and quality of life. Physical activity is a non-pharmacological approach used to prevent chronic pain as it promotes the release of endogenous opioids that block pain sensitivity. Therefore, we developed a systematic review protocol to analyse the relationship between physical activity and the occurrence and intensity of chronic pain in older adults. Methods and analyses The systematic review will search PubMed, Scopus and Embase databases. The inclusion criteria will be observational studies tha...

Linkages between health systems and communities for chronic care: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Linkages between health systems and communities may leverage community assets to address unmet needs and provide services for improved continuity and coordination of care. However, there are limited examples of specific strategies for such linkages for chronic disease management. Guided by a local need from stakeholders, this scoping review aims to clarify and map methods and strategies for linkages between communities and health systems across chronic diseases, to inform future implementation efforts. Methods and analysis The scoping review will be conducted following Arksey and O’Malley’s method...

Long-term and serious harms of medical cannabis and cannabinoids for chronic pain: a systematic review of non-randomised studies
Conclusions There is very low certainty evidence that adverse events are common among people living with chronic pain who use medical cannabis or cannabinoids, but that few patients experience serious adverse events.

Effectiveness of interventions for middle-aged and ageing population with neck pain: a systematic review and network meta-analysis protocol
Introduction Neck pain (NP) is a common musculoskeletal complaint and is increasing in prevalence. Current clinical practice guidelines and systematic reviews recommended conservative, pharmacological and invasive interventions for individuals with NP. However, optimal management specifically for those who are middle-aged or older adults (≥45 years) is not available; and important considering our ageing population. Methods and analysis A systematic review with network meta-analysis (NMA) will be conducted following the Cochrane guidelines. Eligibility criteria include randomised controlled/clinical trials evaluating an...

Effectiveness of adjunctive treatment combined with exercise therapy for patellofemoral pain: a protocol for a systematic review with network meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials
Introduction Patellofemoral pain (PFP) is a chronic condition that affects up to 25% of the general population and has a negative impact on functionality and quality of life due to the high levels of pain experienced by these patients. In order to improve pain and function, rehabilitation programmes that combine adjunctive treatments with exercise therapy are often used in research and clinical settings. However, despite the variety of adjunctive treatments available, their effectiveness when compared with exercise therapy has yet to be elucidated. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of adjunctive ...

Effects of exercise/physical activity on fear of movement in people with spine-related pain: protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction Low back pain and neck pain are leading causes of disability. Although several studies have examined the effect of exercise on fear of movement in people with spine-related pain, the overall evidence supporting the beneficial effect of different forms of exercise on fear of movement remains unknown. This systematic review will determine the strength of evidence for the effect of exercise/physical activity on fear of movement in people with non-specific spine-related pain. Methods/analysis This review protocol was developed following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Protoc...

Comparative efficacy and safety of statins for osteoporosis: a study protocol for a systematic review and network meta-analysis
This study aims to review the literature, ascertaining the relative efficacy and safety of statins for patients with OP using a Bayesian network meta-analysis. Methods and analysis We will systematically search the following databases: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, China Science and Technology Journal Database, Chinese BioMedical Literature Database and preprint servers to include randomised controlled trials that compare different statins for treating OP. Primary outcomes are the incidence of overall fractures an...

Efficacy and safety of osteopathic manipulative treatment: an overview of systematic reviews
Conclusion Based on the currently available SRs and MAs, promising evidence suggests the possible effectiveness of OMT for musculoskeletal disorders. Limited and inconclusive evidence occurs for paediatric conditions, primary headache and IBS. Further well-conducted SRs and MAs are needed to confirm and extend the efficacy and safety of OMT.

Exploring vibroacoustic therapy in adults experiencing pain: a scoping review
Conclusions Research in this area is too sparse to identify properties of VAT that are beneficial for pain management. We suggest VAT researchers describe a minimum of four measurements—frequency, amplitude, pulsation and loudness. Randomised controlled trials are needed to establish reliable scientific proof of VAT effectiveness for both acute and chronic pain. Furthermore, clinical practice would benefit from researching patients’ experiences and preferences of vibroacoustic treatment and its psychosocial components.

Interventions for physician prescribers of opioids for chronic non-cancer pain: protocol for an overview of systematic reviews
Introduction Interventions targeting behaviours of physician prescribers of opioids for chronic non-cancer pain have been introduced to combat the opioid crisis. Systematic reviews have evaluated effects of specific interventions (eg, prescriber education, prescription drug monitoring programmes) on patient and population health outcomes and prescriber behaviour. Integration of findings across intervention types is needed to better understand the effects of prescriber-targeted interventions. Methods and analysis We will conduct an overview of systematic reviews. Eligible systematic reviews will include primary studies tha...

Role of post-trauma stress symptoms in the development of chronic musculoskeletal pain and disability: a protocol for a systematic review
Introduction Post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), pain and disability frequently co-occur following traumatic injuries. Although the coexistence of these symptoms is common, the relation between these symptoms and the impact on longer-term outcome remains poorly understood. This systematic review aims to determine the role of PTSS on the development of chronic pain and/or pain-related disability following musculoskeletal trauma. Methods/analysis This protocol is developed and reported following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses-Protocol. The review will include studies that recruited...

How do middle-aged and older adults with chronic hip pain view their health problem and its care? A protocol for a systematic review and qualitative evidence synthesis
Introduction Chronic hip pain in middle-aged and older adults is common and disabling. Patient-centred care of chronic hip pain requires a comprehensive understanding of how people with chronic hip pain view their health problem and its care. This paper outlines a protocol to synthesise qualitative evidence of middle-aged and older adults' views, beliefs, expectations and preferences about their chronic hip pain and its care. Methods and analysis We will perform a qualitative evidence synthesis using a framework approach. We will conduct this study in accord with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Me...
