Abstract 101: Gender Has Differential Effects on Non-Hemorrhagic Stroke Outcomes Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: Men with non-hemorrhagic stroke were more likely to have dyslipidemia and history of coronary artery disease. This, however, did not translate into increased mortality in younger men.Gender appears to have a differential effect on non-hemorrhagic stroke outcomes which warrants future investigation.

Abstract 261: Applying Clinical Trial Data to Real-World: Apixaban, Dabigatran, and Rivaroxaban Session Title: Poster Session II
CONCLUSIONS: If relative risk reductions from randomized clinical trials persist in the real-world, apixaban would result in the greatest clinical benefit versus warfarin of all NOACs in terms of stroke and major bleeding excluding intracranial hemorrhage events avoided.

Integrating Real-Time Clinical Information to Provide Estimates of Net Clinical Benefit of Antithrombotic Therapy for Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Original Articles
Conclusions— Use of a decision support tool that integrates patient-specific stroke and bleeding risk could result in significant gains in quality-adjusted life expectancy for a primary care population of patients with atrial fibrillation.

Abstract 372: Health Outcomes Associated With Triple Antiplatelet Therapy for the Secondary Prevention of Atherothrombotic Events Session Title: Poster Session III
Vorapaxar is a protease-activated receptor-1 (PAR-1) antagonist indicated for the reduction of atherothrombotic cardiovascular (CV) events in patients with a history of myocardial infarction (MI) or with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), based on the findings of the TRA 2°P-TIMI 50 trial for patients without a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack. This analysis evaluated the health outcomes of triple antiplatelet therapy with vorapaxar when added to a standard care regimen of clopidogrel plus aspirin (ASA) in comparison with standard care alone, for patients without a history of transient ischemic attack or ...

Abstract 20: Dying With a Left Ventricular Assist Device as Destination Therapy Session Title: Abstract Oral Session
Conclusions: In contrast to the general heart failure population, most patients with DT-LVAD die in the hospital and very few enroll in hospice. A significant body of research has demonstrated that patients who die in the intensive care unit and the hospital, as opposed to home or with hospice assistance, experience worse quality of life, quality of death and caregiver outcomes. Potential reasons that patients with DT-LVAD may experience different end-of-life care than other patients with heart failure exist, including that they often experience sudden changes in health status prior to death from acute events such as hemor...

Abstract 25: Predicting Outcomes among Patients with Heart Failure Receiving Anticoagulation with Warfarin Concurrent III Session A: Oral Abstract Presentations on EHS & Health IT
Conclusion: We developed a composite score for CHF severity which predicted both anticoagulation control and the rate of major hemorrhage among patients anticoagulated with warfarin. This study suggests that relatively easily observable characteristics can be used to risk-stratify patients with CHF who are receiving anticoagulation for AF.

Abstract 156: Body Mass Index and Outcomes among Patients with Atrial Fibrillation from the ATRIA2-CVRN Study Poster Session II
In conclusion, overweight and moderate obesity appear protective for all-cause mortality in at-risk AF patients during off-warfarin periods, but these effects do not appear to be mediated by reduced risk of thromboembolism or major bleeding.

Abstract 246: Reversible Cerebral Vasoconstriction Syndrome and Spontaneous Hemorrhage are the Most Common Causes of Peripartum Subarachnoid and Intracerebral Hemorrhage. Poster Session II
Conclusions: Etiologies in peripartum SAH and ICH differ from the general population. Aneurysmal bleeds were absent in our case series. Rates of SAH and ICH may be higher in patients who underwent cesarean section. In conclusion, peripartum subarachnoid and intracranial hemorrhages have a different pathophysiologic process than in the general population.

Abstract 250: Economic Burden of Mortality and Cardiovascular Events among Patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes in a Commercial Health Plan Poster Session III
Conclusion: Our findings suggest that a modest 10% increase in anticoagulant use among patients with ACS would reduce mortality, MI, ST and related healthcare costs by 4%, 0.7%, and 3%, respectively. Addition of anticoagulation therapy potentially reduces the incidence of ACS-related mortality, MI, ST and associated healthcare costs to a commercial health plan, and benefits from anticoagulation use should be balanced against the risk of bleeding.

Abstract 15: Frequency and Predictors of Inappropriate Aspirin Prescribing for Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease: Insights from the NCDR(R) PINNACLE Registry. Session Title: Concurrent I Session C: Young Investigator Award Finalists Oral Abstract Presentations
Conclusion: Inappropriate aspirin prescribing occurs in approximately one third of patients receiving aspirin for primary prevention. There is modest but significant practice-level variation. Our findings identify opportunities to improve evidence-based aspirin prescribing in primary CVD prevention.

Abstract 314: Impact of Spontaneous Bleeding Events on Health State Utility in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation: Results from the ENGAGE AF-TIMI 48 Trial Session Title: Poster Session III
CONCLUSION: Spontaneous bleeding events are associated with a negative impact on health state utility, with greatest immediate impact for major bleeds. Health state utility remains low 1 year after an ICH, but gradually returns to baseline 1-year after other major bleeding events. Future cost-effectiveness analysis of strategies to prevent stroke in AF should consider both the economic and health status impact of bleeding events to inform health care decision making.
