Eighteen-year trends in stroke mortality and the prognostic influence of comorbidity
Conclusions: Short- and long-term mortality improved considerably between 1994 and 2011 for all types of stroke. Short-term mortality improved regardless of comorbidity burden. However, comorbidity burden was a strong prognostic factor for both short- and long-term mortality.

Thrombus Density Predicts Successful Recanalization With Stent-Retriever Thrombectomy In Acute Ischemic Stroke (P4.215)
CONCLUSIONS In acute stroke treated with Solitaire stent-retriever thrombectomy, higher thrombus HU values are predictive of successful recanalization. Such information can be used in the decision-making process when estimating recanalization success rate with different endovascular treatment approaches.Disclosure: Dr. Mokin has received research support from Toshiba. Optical Bedside Monitoring of Cerebral Blood Flow in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients during Head of Bed Manipulation (P4.216)
CONCLUSIONS: A lower HOB angle results in an increase in cortical CBF without a significant change in arterial flow velocity in the setting of acute stroke, but there is variability across patients in this response. Bedside CBF monitoring with DCS provides a potential means to individualize interventions designed to optimize CBF in acute ischemic stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Favilla has nothing to disclose. The Effect Of Statin Pretreatment And Serum Lipid Values On Hemorragic Conversion After rt-PA for Acute Ischemic Stroke (P4.225)
CONCLUSIONS:Our study showed no significant correlation between PSS or lipid profile with ICH following IVT. Furthermore, no association with DmRS was found. Additional larger studies on PSS may be beneficial to determine the effects of statins on ICH risk.Disclosure: Dr. Khawaja has nothing to disclose. Dr. Lyerly has nothing to disclose. Leukoaraiosis Is Associated With Impaired Functional Recovery And Outcome After Mild Ischemic Stroke. (P7.153)
CONCLUSIONS: Leukoaraiosis is an independent risk factor for poor functional outcome at discharge after minor ischemic stroke. Further analysis whether this effect persists to 90 days are ongoing.Disclosure: Dr. Onteddu has nothing to disclose. Dr. Minaeian has nothing to disclose. Dr. Goddeau has nothing to disclose. The Association of Clinical Factors and Highly-Sensitive C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) with Depression in Stroke Patients (P7.162)
CONCLUSIONS: Post-stroke Depressive symptoms are associated with worse functional status and younger age. Elevated levels of hsCRP after stroke may be associated with depression, motivating larger studies and potentially offering avenue for new treatment interventions.Study Supported by: NADisclosure: Dr. Itrat has nothing to disclose. Recurrent thromboembolic events after ischemic stroke in patients with cancer
Conclusions: Patients with acute ischemic stroke in the setting of active cancer (especially adenocarcinoma) face a substantial short-term risk of recurrent ischemic stroke and other types of thromboembolism.

Peripheral pulse measurement after ischemic stroke: A feasibility study
Conclusion: With a low rate of false-positive results, MPP offers an easy, ubiquitously available, noninvasive, first-step screening tool to guide ECG diagnostics for pAF after ischemic stroke. The data warrant a prospective trial evaluating the efficacy of MPP-guided ECG diagnostics in secondary prevention after stroke, which is now underway. Classification of evidence: This study provides Class I evidence that MPP by patients or relatives accurately distinguishes AF from normal heart rhythm as compared with continuous ECG.

Life after stroke: Beyond medications
Stroke is a common, disabling, and expensive condition. In the Unites States alone, stroke prevalence exceeds 3.2%, with an annual cost approaching $40 billion, including the cost of health care services, medications, and lost productivity.1 Stroke is not restricted to old age. Nearly 1 of every 5 strokes occurs in young adults; strokes can also occur in adolescents and children.2 Several lines of evidence have raised public health concerns about the rising prevalence of traditional vascular risk factors in young individuals, and their potential role in increasing the risk for ischemic stroke, recurrent stroke, and poststr...

Long-term increased risk of unemployment after young stroke: A long-term follow-up study
Conclusion: Young stroke patients had a 2–3 times higher risk of unemployment after 8 years of follow-up. Return-to-work programs should be developed, adjusted, and evaluated in order to diminish the negative effects that unemployment can have on patients' life satisfaction and to limit the socioeconomic consequences.

Cerebrovascular reactivity predicts stroke in high-grade carotid artery disease
Conclusions: This analysis supports the usefulness of CO2R in risk prediction for patients with severe carotid artery stenosis or occlusion, both in recently symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. Further studies should evaluate whether treatment strategies in asymptomatic patients based on CO2R could improve patient outcomes.
