Prehospital factors determining regional variation in thrombolytic therapy in acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionsThese results suggest that the larger proportion of patients arriving within 4·5 h in the centralized model might be related to a lower threshold to use emergency services to transport stroke patients and partly to preferential referral of thrombolysis candidates.

Tissue kallikrein preventing the restenosis after stenting of symptomatic MCA atherosclerotic stenosis (KPRASS)
ConclusionAs our pilot study, tissue kallikrein would be expected to prevent the long‐term in‐stent restenosis after stenting of the symptomatic middle cerebral artery dramatically.

Differences in lipid profiles in two Hispanic ischemic stroke populations
ConclusionWe found significant differences in lipid fractions in Hispanic ischemic stroke patients, with lower total cholesterol and low‐density lipoprotein, and higher triglyceride levels in Mexicans. These findings highlight the heterogeneity of dyslipidemia among the Hispanic race‐ethnic group and may lead to different secondary prevention strategies.

Social competence following neonatal and childhood stroke
ConclusionsStroke can result in impaired adaptive and social functioning without apparent deficits in IQ or behavior. Infarct size, residual neurological deficits, impaired cognitive ability, and problem behaviors increase the risk for poor social adjustment and participation. These findings can help the clinician anticipate impaired social functioning after pediatric stroke, which is important because age‐specific treatments are available.

Are patients with intracerebral haemorrhage disadvantaged in hospitals?
ConclusionsFollowing intracerebral haemorrhage, patients were less likely to be admitted to an acute stroke unit and receive allied health interventions. Admission to stroke units improved the likelihood of being independent at days 7–10 and, therefore, more should be done to encourage evidence‐based care for intracerebral haemorrhage.

Diagnostic and prognostic value of multimodal MRI in transient ischemic attack
ConclusionsApproximately three‐quarter of transient ischemic attack is associated with multimodal magnetic resonance imaging abnormality. Initial perfusion‐weighted imaging abnormality predicts newly developed diffusion‐weighted imaging lesions, and symptomatic magnetic resonance angiogram abnormality seems to be the most important predictor for subsequent clinical events. Multimodal magnetic resonance imaging appears to be useful in assessing transient ischemic attack and predicting outcome in these patients.

The impact of cerebrovascular disease in Panama
ConclusionSince 2013, both hospitals' intravenous thrombolytic therapy program has been successfully applied as public health policy. A successful campaign on healthy lifestyle must be strengthened through a comprehensive approach with other public sectors in order to have an impact on the population, particularly in children and adolescents.

Reperfusion after 4·5 hours reduces infarct growth and improves clinical outcomes
ConclusionsThrombolysis 4·5–6 h after stroke onset reduced infarct growth and increased the rate of reperfusion, which was associated with good neurological and functional outcome.

Current status of acute stroke management in Korea: a report on a multicenter, comprehensive acute stroke registry
There are limited data on the utilization of diagnostics and the variation of treatments at the national level in acute stroke care. Clinical Research Center for Stroke – 5th division stroke registry aimed to describe stroke statistics and quality of care in Korea and to implement quality indicators. Clinical Research Center for Stroke – 5th division registry was established in April 2008 and covers pretreatment demographics, medical and stroke severity measures, diagnostic evaluation, hyperacute revascularization, in‐hospital management, discharge disposition, quality indicators, and long‐term functional outcomes....

A score based on age and DWI volume predicts poor outcome following endovascular treatment for acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionsThe Stanford Age and Diffusion‐Weighted Imaging and Houston Intra‐Arterial Therapy scores can be used to predict poor functional outcome following endovascular therapy with good accuracy. However, these scores do not predict the clinical response to reperfusion. This limits their utility as tools to select patients for acute stroke interventions.

A multicenter, randomized, controlled study to investigate EXtending the time for Thrombolysis in Emergency Neurological Deficits with Intra‐Arterial therapy (EXTEND‐IA)
Background and HypothesisThrombolysis with tissue plasminogen activator is proven to reduce disability when given within 4·5 h of ischemic stroke onset. However, tissue plasminogen activator only succeeds in recanalizing large vessel arterial occlusion in a minority of patients. We hypothesized that anterior circulation ischemic stroke patients, selected with ‘dual target’ vessel occlusion and evidence of salvageable brain using computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging ‘mismatch’ within 4·5 h of onset, would have improved reperfusion and early neurological improvement when treated with intra‐arteri...

Worldwide reported use of IV tissue plasminogen activator for acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionsBy reported use, intravenous tissue plasminogen activator for acute ischemic stroke is available to some patients in approximately one‐third of countries. Access to advanced acute stroke care is most limited where the greatest burden of cerebrovascular disease is reported.
