ConclusionsRisk predictors for stroke recurrence and for brain hemorrhage differ by index ischemic stroke subtype, information that is important when initiating secondary prevention therapy.

Association of baseline dyslipidemia with stroke recurrence within five‐years after ischemic stroke
ConclusionsOur results showed that DL is related to the recurrent strokes in patients with ischemic stroke within five‐years after ischemic stroke, specifically to the large‐artery disease subtype.

Posterior circulation stroke is associated with prolonged door‐to‐needle time
ConclusionsPosterior circulation stroke patients had a delay in neurology evaluation after initial emergency department evaluation and a delay in intravenous tissue plasminogen activator administration compared with anterior circulation stroke patients. There may be difficulties in rapidly recognizing the symptoms of posterior circulation stroke, in contrast to anterior circulation stroke, in the emergency department.

Trimming the fat in acute ischemic stroke: an assessment of 24‐h CT scans in tPA patients
ConclusionsOur results demonstrate that routine 24‐h computed tomography scan in patients without 24‐h National Institute of Health Stroke Scale worsening (especially those with baseline National Institute of Health Stroke Scale ≤10) is less likely to yield information that results in a deviation from standard acute stroke care. Association between atherogenic dyslipidemia and recurrent stroke risk in patients with different subtypes of ischemic stroke
ConclusionsAtherogenic dyslipidemia is associated with higher risk of stroke recurrence in ischemic stroke patients. Such association might be more pronounced in large‐artery atherosclerosis subtype and needs further investigation to establish such relationship.

Risk factors for ischemic stroke and its subtypes in Chinese vs. Caucasians: Systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionOur study showed a lower prevalence of atrial fibrillation, ischemic heart disease and hypercholesterolemia in Chinese, and mostly similar risk factor associations in Chinese and Caucasian ischemic stroke patients. Further analyses of individual patient data to allow adjustment for confounders are needed to confirm and extend these findings.

The European Stroke Organisation Guidelines: a standard operating procedure
In 2008, the recently founded European Stroke Organisation published its guidelines for the management of ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack. This highly cited document was translated in several languages and was updated in 2009. Emergency transfer of acute stroke patients within the East Saxony telemedicine stroke network: a descriptive analysis
ConclusionsA remarkable number of stroke patients can be transferred within a telemedical network to enable the delivery of specific stroke therapies that require advanced multispecialty expertise. Whether associated logistic efforts and costs have an impact on patients' clinical outcomes needs to be evaluated.

Burden of stroke in Estonia
Estonia is the smallest of the three Baltic countries. The decline in incidence of first‐ever stroke during the 1990s has left Tartu, Estonia with a relatively low stroke incidence. An epidemiological survey of stroke among rural Chinese adults results from the Liaoning province
ConclusionsThe annual incidence of stroke and resulting mortality has increased at an accelerated rate. Furthermore, the incidence of stroke in rural China was higher than that found in urban China and Western countries. Hypertension and lipid disorder were important modifiable risk factors. The primary sub‐type of stroke observed in rural China was ischemic stroke. These findings underscored the need for more aggressive efforts to control the risk factors of stroke and other cardiovascular diseases in rural areas.

Outcomes for people with atrial fibrillation in an Australian national audit of stroke care
ConclusionsHospital processes of care can influence outcomes in stroke patients with atrial fibrillation. The greater in‐hospital mortality experienced by stroke patients with atrial fibrillation may be attenuated by admission to a stroke unit, and for ischemic stroke, early administration of aspirin.
