Psychosocial interventions for the prevention of self-harm repetition: protocol for a systematic review and network meta-analysis
Introduction Suicide is an important public health problem. Providing evidence-based psychosocial interventions to individuals presenting with self-harm is recognised as an important suicide prevention strategy. Therefore, it is crucial to understand which intervention is most effective in preventing self-harm repetition. We will evaluate the comparative efficacy of psychosocial interventions for the prevention of self-harm in adults. Methods and analysis We will perform a systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) testing psychosocial interventions for the prevention of self-...

Exploring physical and biological manifestations of burnout and post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms in healthcare workers: a scoping review protocol
Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic has strained the mental and physical well-being of healthcare workers (HCW). Increased work-related stress and limited resources have increased symptoms of anxiety, depression, insomnia and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in this population. Stress-related disorders have been strongly associated with long-term consequences, including cardiometabolic disorders, endocrine disorders and premature mortality. This scoping review aims to explore available literature on burnout, PTSD, and other mental health-associated symptoms in HCW to synthesise relationships with physiological and biol...

Role of optical coherence tomography in depression detection: a protocol of systematic review and meta-analysis
This study aims to employ a systematic review and meta-analysis approach to explore ocular biomarkers measured by OCT for detecting depression. Methods and analysis We will search studies describing the relationship between OCT and depression across seven electronic databases, and retrieve articles published from database inception to date. We will also manually search grey literature and reference lists included in the retrieved studies. Two independent reviewers will screen studies, extract data and assess risk of bias. Target outcomes will include peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer thickness, macular ganglion cell...

Effectiveness of integrated chronic care models for cardiometabolic multimorbidity in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion Integrated care improved SBP among patients living with cardiometabolic multimorbidity in SSA. More studies on integrated care are required to improve the evidence pool on chronic care models for multimorbidity in SSA. These include implementation studies and cost-effectiveness studies. PROSPERO registration number CRD42020187756.

Emotional freedom technique versus written exposure therapy versus waiting list for post-traumatic stress disorder: protocol for a randomised clinical MRI study
This study was designed as a randomised, assessor-blinded, three-arm clinical MRI study. A total of 120 eligible patients with PTSD will be recruited and randomised into EFT, written exposure therapy (WET) or WL groups. EFT and WET will be applied once a week for 5 weeks. For patients in the WL group, EFT will be performed after 12 weeks. PTSD symptoms, depression, anxiety, somatic symptoms and quality of life will be evaluated. Assessments will be conducted at baseline (week 0), post-treatment (week 6) and follow-up (week 12). Structural and functional brain images and recording videos of facial expressions to emotional s...

Introduction Post-COVID-19 depression (PCD) is a possible sequela of COVID-19. Some doctors have used acupuncture to treat PCD, but no systematic review or meta-analysis has yet evaluated its efficacy and safety for the treatment of PCD. The aim of this systematic review is to assess the efficacy and safety of acupuncture therapy for PCD. Methods and analysis Two reviewers will independently search the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Medline (PubMed), Excerpt Medica Database (EMBASE), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), Chinese Scientific ...

Applying dyadic digital psychological interventions for reducing caregiver burden in the illness context: a systematic review and a meta-analysis protocol
Introduction Providing informal care to one’s romantic partner who is ill may become a highly distressing and demanding task. Based on the innovative dyadic coping model, several support interventions have been developed to alleviate informal caregivers’ burden, including both caregivers’ and care receivers’ needs. Considering the unique challenges characterising the caregiving phenomenon, such as geographical barriers and time restrictions, digital solutions should be considered. However, there is a lack of research examining the effectiveness of dyadic digital solutions. Thus, this review aims to ...

Efficacy of non-pharmacological interventions on depressive symptoms in patients with Parkinsons disease: a study protocol for a systematic review and network meta-analysis
Introduction Depression is the most dominant non-motor symptom of Parkinson’s disease (PD), with a prevalence of up to 50%, and can lead to a range of psychiatric and psychological problems that can affect quality of life and overall functioning. While several randomised controlled trials (RCTs) have tested the effect of certain non-pharmacological interventions on the outcome of PD depression symptoms, the comparative benefits and harms of these remain unclear. We will conduct a systematic review and network meta-analysis to compare the efficacy and safety of different non-pharmacological interventions for patients ...
