Stroke and myocardial infarction following bronchial artery embolization in a cystic fibrosis patient
A 31year-old male with advanced CF lung disease (genotype F508del/R560T) presented with massive hemoptysis in the context of a pulmonary exacerbation. Baseline lung function showed a forced expiratory volume in 1s of 0.89L (22% predicted), and respiratory cultures consistently grew Pseudomonas aeruginosa and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus. He was actively listed for lung transplant but was considered a high risk candidate, given right lung volume loss associated with pronounced mediastinal shift.
