Abstract 263: Incidence of Recurrent Cardiovascular Events and Disease Burden Among High-Risk Patients with Hyperlipidemia Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: CV event-related risk and long-term costs are significantly greater among high-risk patients with shorter time intervals between recurrent CV events. Underutilization of LLTs in these patients highlights the need for improving clinical management and treatment options for these patients.

Health and Economic Implications of National Treatment Coverage for Cardiovascular Disease in India: Cost-Effectiveness Analysis Original Articles
Conclusions— Coverage of all 3 major types of cardiovascular treatment would be expected to have high impact and reasonable cost-effectiveness in India across a broad spectrum of access and adherence levels.

Association of Patient Enrollment in Medicare Part D With Outcomes After Acute Myocardial Infarction Original Articles
Conclusions— Only half of Medicare-insured patients with AMI were enrolled in Part D by hospital discharge, and their 30-day and 1-year adjusted outcomes did not differ substantially from nonenrollees. There remain opportunities for improvement in medication adherence among patients with prescription drug coverage.

Abstract 112: Adherence and Persistence with Statins in Patients with ASCVD Session Title: Abstract Poster Session I and Reception
Conclusions: While patients remained on their first statin (or ezetimibe) therapy for a substantial period of time, a large proportion of patients eventually discontinue therapy. Overall, adherence was high, indicating that ASCVD patients are compliant with their LLT. Interventions and new treatments to improve lipid lowering therapy seem necessary in patients with ASCVD.

Abstract 138: Contemporary Patterns of Use of Antiplatelet Agents in Patients With Acute Myocardial Infarction: Insight From the National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) Session Title: Abstract Poster Session I and Reception
Conclusions: Our contemporary dataset shows a modest but significant increase in use of ticagrelor early and at discharge, with simultaneous decline in the use of clopidogrel and prasugrel in patients presenting with AMI.

Abstract 206: Impact of Inpatient Evaluation of Health Literacy on Outcomes in Post-MI Patients Session Title: Abstract Poster Session II
Conclusion: Routine hospital health literacy screening did not improve risk of MACE. Selective health literacy screening was associated with lower 1-year readmission risk compared with hospitals that never screened. Studies are needed to elicit how inpatient health literacy screening can improve patient transition of care.

Endometriosis and Risk of Coronary Heart Disease Original Articles
Conclusions— In this large, prospective cohort, laparoscopically confirmed endometriosis was associated with increased risk of CHD. The association was strongest among young women. Hysterectomy/oophorectomy was associated with higher risk of CHD and could partially explain the association between endometriosis and CHD.

Comparative Effectiveness of Carotid Artery Stenting Versus Carotid Endarterectomy Among Medicare Beneficiaries Original Articles
Conclusions— Outcomes after CAS and CEA among Medicare beneficiaries were comparable after adjusting for both patient- and provider-level factors.

Glycemic Control for Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Our Evolving Faith in the Face of Evidence Original Articles
Conclusions— Discordance exists between the research evidence and academic and clinical policy statements about the value of tight glycemic control to reduce micro- and macrovascular complications. This discordance may distort priorities in the research and practice agendas designed to improve the lives of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract 022: Assessing Attitudes and Treatment Preferences Among Patients With Hyperlipidemia: Patient Focus Groups Session Title: Poster Session I
Discussion: The frequent switching and side effects highlight significant unmet need in patients with HLD and dissatisfaction with statins among current and recent users, with and without a history of CV events. Results also suggest that a sizeable portion of patients with HLD may be willing to try an injectable CLD.

Abstract 043: Health Insurance and the Risk of Incident Cardiovascular Disease in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: The association of health insurance with CVD incidence varied by insurance group, and private insurance was associated with a lower risk of incident CVD. Further exploration of the features of health insurance coverage that impact CVD incidence may facilitate improvements in the primary prevention of CVD.

Abstract 137: Clinical Outcomes After Cardiac Stress Testing Among U.S. Patients Younger Than 65, 2006-2012 Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: The percentage of commercially insured U.S. patients who had an AMI or revascularization event within 1 year of stress testing was small. In the lowest risk quintile, the a priori prevalence of coronary disease risk factors was low, and the rates of subsequent AMI and revascularization was extremely low, raising questions about the value of stress testing in this subgroup.

Abstract 138: Impact of Depressive Disorder on Access to Care and Quality of Care in Veterans With Cardiovascular Disease Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Depressive disorder was associated with higher rates of financial barriers to care and prescription drugs, and patient-reported delays in medical care in U.S. veterans with CVD. Further research appears warranted to evaluate the impact of mental health disease upon cardiovascular care in veterans with CVD.
