Abstract 55: Reducing Utilization of Cardiac Stress Testing in the Outpatient Primary Care Setting: a Clinical Prediction Rule Poster Session I
Conclusion: Our simple decision rule could significantly reduce the number of stress tests ordered by primary care physicians without compromising event-free survival. Further refinement and validation of this score in both retrospective and prospective studies is warranted.

Abstract 96: Sex Differences in Pre-Event Health Status of Young Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction: The VIRGO Study Poster Session I
Conclusion: Compared with men, young women presenting with an AMI seem to have worse health status with poorer physical functioning and quality of life prior to their event. In light of these findings, it may be useful for healthcare providers to identify young women who are at increased cardiovascular risk at an earlier stage in order to optimize their health status.

Abstract 150: Resource Utilization Patterns and Outcomes Among Acute Coronary Syndrome Patients: Findings From a Multi-Payer Analysis Poster Session II
Conclusion: These findings suggest that many patients with ACS do not receive appropriate recommended antithrombotic prophylaxis, and opportunities exist to improve therapy. Increased use of software tools such as AQuA may support enhanced education efforts aimed at improving adherence to guidelines and quality of care.

Abstract 185: Health Care Resource Utilization of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) in a Geographically Distributed US Population 2006-2011 Poster Session II
Conclusion: Patients with recurrent CVEs had higher 1- and 3-year post-index overall and CV-related utilization as compared with patients without recurrent CVEs. More aggressive strategies to manage this increased long-term utilization is warranted. This study underscores the need to prevent subsequent adverse CVEs, ultimately to improve patient outcomes and help reduce overall health care utilization.

Abstract 227: Prescribing Warfarin at Discharge for Heart Failure Patients without Atrial Fibrillation Findings from the Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure Registry Poster Session II
Conclusions: Approximately 1 in 10 HF patients without AF or other documented indications are prescribed warfarin at discharge, and prescription rates vary widely across hospitals. Further research is needed to understand why anticoagulation is prescribed to patients with HF in the absence of documented indications.

Abstract 251: Risk Factors for Recurrence of Cardiovascular Events Following Acute Coronary Syndrome: Longitudinal Analysis from 2006-2011 Poster Session III
Conclusion: Following an ACS event, patients with pre-admission statin use or a prior CABG had decreased risk, while older patients or those with baseline comorbidities had increased risk of an adverse CV event occurring sooner. Ultimately, identifying high-risk ACS subgroups may facilitate tailored and more aggressive treatment to improve outcomes.

Quality-of-Life Outcomes With a Disodium EDTA Chelation Regimen for Coronary Disease: Results From the Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy Randomized Trial Original Articles
Conclusions— In stable, predominantly asymptomatic coronary disease patients with a history of myocardial infarction, EDTA chelation therapy did not have a detectable effect on QOL during 2 years of follow-up. Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Women: Results From the Women's Health Initiative Original Articles
Conclusions— Regular use of selective cox-2 inhibitors and nonselective NSAIDs with cox-2>cox-1 inhibition showed a modestly increased hazard for cardiovascular events. Nonselective agents with cox-1>cox-2 inhibition were not associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Clinical Trial Registration— URL: www.clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT00000611.

Abstract 20: Public Reporting of Mortality Rates for Cardiovascular Conditions Did Not Improve Patient Outcomes Session Title: Concurrent II Session A: Oral Abstracts on Policy Issues
Conclusions: We found that mortality rates for publicly reported conditions were improving slightly during the period when only processes of care were being reported, but that these improvements slowed or reversed once public reporting of mortality rates began. These findings suggest that public reporting may be necessary, but is clearly not sufficient, to improve patient outcomes.

Abstract 102: Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in U.S. Coronary Heart Disease and Acute Coronary Syndrome Patients Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: CHD and ACS are resource intensive diseases in the first year after index episode, with most costs related to hospitalizations. Outpatient cardiovascular drug costs make up a small proportion of the total costs.

Abstract 110: Long-Term Health Status Outcomes in Young Women with Acute Myocardial Infarction: Results from the VIRGO Study Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: Compared with men, young women are more likely to have "poor" health status outcomes after AMI. This information is critically important in developing targets for gender-specific interventions to improve young women’s recovery post AMI.

Abstract 178: Females with Cardiac Comorbidities Have Worse Outcome Compared to Males Presenting with Unexplained Syncope: An ACAP-SELF Dataset Analysis Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: The SELF-pathway for patients with syncope helps identify at-risk subgroups in our patient population. Females with SELF-2 criteria (Structural heart disease, abnormal ECG, arrhythmia) had significantly worse long-term outcome compared to males regardless of manner of syncopal presentation.

Abstract 185: The Sex Gap among Cardiovascular Disease Encounters in India Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: Untreated or poorly managed AF and CAD can lead to myocardial infarction, stroke and death. A greater awareness of gender differences in AF and CAD, and the impact of factors that are unique to each gender, would contribute to more effective management and better long-term outcomes.Though genetic differences may contribute to greater cardiovascular disease prevalence in men, PINNACLE India’s sizable difference in male and female representation could be indicative of cultural or economic issues limiting access to specialty care for females. Implementing dedicated efforts to understand and reduce gaps in ac...

Abstract 207: Gender Differences in Pre-Event Health Status of Young Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction: Insights from the VIRGO Study Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: Young women with an AMI have poorer health status prior to their event than men. This suggests worse symptom control prior to an AMI and underscores the need to adjust for baseline health status in evaluations of gender-based disparities in young AMI patients.
