Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Reduces Early Stroke in Octogenarians: A Meta-Analysis of 18,000 Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Coronary artery bypass in octogenarians can be performed safely with low early mortality. Although off-pump operations reduce the risk of early stroke, all other adverse events are comparable in on- and off-pump coronary artery bypass operations. Data regarding late mortality is at present limited; however, both on- and off-pump procedures appear to produce comparable survival. PMID: 25791924 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Meta-Analysis of Staged Versus Combined Carotid Endarterectomy and Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.
CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis of observational studies suggests comparable outcomes in combined and staged approach for synchronous carotid and coronary artery disease. Hence, the 2 strategies can be used interchangeable in the clinical practice, with each having specific applications linked to specific clinical conditions. A randomized trial is warranted to answer this question definitively. PMID: 24090581 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Midterm Outcome of Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in Young Patients: A Multicenter Italian Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients less than 50 years of age undergoing CABG have an excellent outcome compared with elderly patients. These data indicate that despite its premature onset, coronary artery disease in young patients does not have a more aggressive course than that in older patients. Comparison of 3-Year Outcomes for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery and Drug-Eluting Stents: Does Sex Matter?
CONCLUSIONS: For women, the advantage of CABG surgery over DES is very similar to what was found for men, and this advantage persisted for patients with and without high-risk characteristics. PMID: 26294345 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Sex-based outcomes after coronary artery bypass grafting.
CONCLUSIONS: Sex was not an independent predictor of long-term MACE after CABG in this population-based cohort study. Men had however higher long-term all-cause mortality and women higher risk of myocardial infarction. Long-term outcomes should be accounted for when considering sex as a risk factor for CABG. Long-Term Survival After Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery: A Swedish Nationwide Cohort Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Long-term survival was similar between off-pump and on-pump CABG in patients undergoing non-emergent primary isolated CABG in Sweden from 1998 to 2008. Off-pump CABG was performed infrequently and there was a continuous decline in the number of procedures during the study period. PMID: 24075498 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Optimal Conduit for Diabetic Patients: Propensity Analysis of Radial and Right Internal Thoracic Arteries.
CONCLUSIONS: In diabetic patients undergoing multivessel revascularization with either RA or RITA grafts to the circumflex coronary, long-term survival is similar. However, RA patients experienced significantly fewer respiratory or sternal wound adverse events. The RA is the preferred conduit to extend to more diabetic patients the recognized survival benefit of a multiple arterial graft strategy. PMID: 24878172 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Robotic Total Arterial Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: Seven-Year Single-Center Experience and Long-Term Follow-Up of Graft Patency.
CONCLUSIONS: Robotic off-pump CABG using IMA grafts is a safe and effective procedure in selected patients. The long-term outcome and patency of IMA grafts are excellent. PMID: 26190391 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Impact of Ultrafiltration on Kidney Injury After Cardiac Surgery: The Michigan Experience.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients exposed to CUF had a higher adjusted risk of AKI. Clinical teams should consider lower volumes of CUF among patients with low creatinine clearance to minimize the risk of AKI. PMID: 26209495 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Hybrid Coronary Revascularization Versus On-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.
CONCLUSIONS: For selected patients, HCR is associated with a faster postoperative recovery as well as similar short-term and long-term outcomes when compared with standard on-pump CABG. PMID: 29571730 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Clinical Outcomes of Mitral Valve Reoperations in the United States: An Analysis of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Database.
CONCLUSIONS: Despite a high-risk patient profile, surgical outcomes of reoperative MVS were acceptable, particularly in elective cases with prior mitral valve surgery and without endocarditis. PMID: 30365952 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Long-Term Single Centre Outcomes of Patients with Chronic Renal Dialysis Undergoing Cardiac Surgery.
CONCLUSIONS: Cardiac surgery in DD-CRF patients is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Interestingly, overall mortality was mainly none cardiac-related, where elderly patients or those presented with CHF had the worst life expectancy. However, subsequent kidney transplantation positively impact long-term survival in such patients. PMID: 31563486 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Very long-term outcome of Minimally Invasive Direct Coronary Artery Bypass.
CONCLUSIONS: Very long-term clinical outcome of MIDCAB is satisfactory in terms of survival and freedom from MACCE. MIDCAB significantly reduces in-hospital stay and blood transfusions when compared to full sternotomy bypass surgery on left descending coronary artery and appears to effectively improve prognosis in terms of cardiac- and all-causes events. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with CKD and CABG, those who received ticagrelor had a higher incidence of MACCE but a similar incidence of major bleeding compared to those who received aspirin.PMID:33819474 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.03.061
