NIH Slated for 7 percent Budget Cut
The President has proposed a $38.7 billion budget for the National Institutes of Health in fiscal year (FY) 2021. This translates to a $3 billion or 7 percent cut in the agency’s funding compared to FY 2020. The NIH budget request includes a $50 million initiative to use artificial intelligence (AI) to develop a better understanding of the causes of chronic diseases and to identify early treatments. In Little Rock, Alzheimer's Association President Calls for More Research
The number of Arkansans suffering from Alzheimer's disease is expected to increase almost 25 percent — from 54,000 to 67,000 — by 2025 as the state's population continues to age, according to Alzheimer's Association President and CEO Harry Johns.
