COVID-19 associated Mucormycosis (CAM): Implications for perioperative physicians & #8211; A narrative review
Anju Gupta, Bhavana Kayarat, Nishkarsh GuptaSaudi Journal of Anaesthesia 2023 17(1):58-64 Mucormycosis once considered a rare disease with an incidence of 0.005 to 1.7 per million, has become one of the greatest menaces during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. India alone has contributed to nearly 70% of the global caseload of COVID-associated mucormycosis (CAM) and it had even been declared as a notifiable disease. Second wave of COVID-19 pandemic saw a steep rise in the incidence of mucormycosis and these patients have been presenting to anesthesiologists for various surgical procedures due to its ...

Access to pain medicines and follow-up consultation after radiofrequency ablation for trigeminal neuralgia during the COVID-19 pandemic
Conclusion: Along with the clinical factors, we have to overlook other factors in predicting difficulty to access PCS in trigeminal neuralgia patients post the RFA status. Difficulty in access to pain medicines and/or consultations was associated with a poor health status and higher pain scores.

The Macro View – Health, Economics, and Politics and the Big Picture. What I Am Watching Here And Abroad.
The objective most consistent with recent operations is to conquer Luhansk, Donetsk, and Kherson, with a view to their eventual annexation and Russification. But not only are they some way from achieving that (w ith much of Donetsk still in Ukrainian hands and the Russia position in Kherson highly contested) it would also require an explicit Ukrainian surrender for it to serve as the basis for a declaration of victory. That will not be forthcoming.-----https://www.afr.com/world/europe/how-britain-giggled-its-way-into-crisis-20220710-p5b0giHow Britain giggled its way into crisisBoris Johnson has exposed the costs of Britain...

Perioperative anesthetic concerns in postcovid mucormycosis patients posted for surgical intervention: An observational Study
Conclusion: Considering the perioperative risk associated with high HbA1C and pneumonitis, MAC was preferred in majority of cases. Strict hemodynamic monitoring, perioperative glucose control, difficult airway cart, metabolic and electrolyte balance and vigilant peri-operative monitoring are cornerstone for better outcome and short length of hospital stay.

Difficult lung separation. An insight into the challenges faced during COVID-19 pandemic
Alaa M Khidr, Mohamed R El TahanSaudi Journal of Anaesthesia 2021 15(3):300-311 Difficult lung isolation or separation in patients undergoing thoracic surgery using one-lung ventilation might be attributed to upper airway difficulty or abnormal anatomy of the lower airway. Additionally, adequate deflation of the surgical lung can impair surgical exposure. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has a harmful consequence for both patients and anesthesiologists. Management of patients with difficult lung isolation can be challenging during the COVID-19 pandemic. Careful planning and preparation, preoperative routine testing...

Spontaneous pneumomediastinum and subcutaneous emphysema in patients with COVID-19
Conclusion: This series is presented to highlight the emerging association of COVID-19 with spontaneous air leaks leading to pneumomediastinum, pneumothorax, and subsequent subcutaneous emphysema even in patients who have never received invasive mechanical ventilation and this may be more likely with the institution of high flow nasal cannula.

COVID-19 and the perioperative neuroscience - A narrative review
Indu Kapoor, Charu Mahajan, Hemanshu PrabhakarSaudi Journal of Anaesthesia 2021 15(1):19-26 Among the several medical specialties, anesthesiologists are probably the most affected ones from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic as they are at the frontline. In the present stage of the pandemic, where we are observing community transmission, more people with elective neurologic and neurosurgical problems are likely to be tested positive for this virulent disease. Neuroanesthesiologists play an important role in the perioperative period and in neuroradiology suite. It is imperative to know the best available ways by w...

Unusual routes for transmission of coronavirus disease (COVID-19): Recommendations to interrupt the vicious cycle of infection
The objective of the narrative review is to describe what is COVID-19-related coronavirus (CoV), its structure and particle size, potential transmission routes, the risk of infection in patients undergoing blood transfusion or in patients with diabetes and cancer, and recommendations to prevent its spread in office settings, travel / recreation settings, residential and health facilities. This paper also discusses several groundbreaking approaches that are used to counter COVID-19. With this narrative review, we hope to raise awareness of the usual and unusual pathways of transmission and prevent the spread of this pandemic disease.
