General practice workforce boasts 7,000 more staff than three years ago
Primary care in England now has 7,302 more full time equivalent (FTE) health professionals than three years ago, NHS Digital has revealed. Qualified GP workforce falls by 441, official data reveals

Nursing retention programme extended into general practice
The NHS will extend its nursing retention programme, currently for acute and community trusts, into general practice.  The move, outlined in the NHS interim workforce plan, has been made to reduce turnover rates of nurses.  Work with primary care to extend the programme will begin by March 2020, alongside the introduction of incentives to support entry and return to practice nursing.  The scheme has been implemented in nearly half of all trusts (110) so far and seen turnover rates reduce from 12.5% to 11.9% nationally.Hide related content:  Show related contentread more (Source: Management in Practice)

Free NHS wifi available across 95% of practices in England
Free NHS wifi is now available across 95% of GP practices in England, NHS Digital has announced. Free internet connection is available in 6,749 GP practices and 212 acute, mental health and community NHS trusts– 98% of NHS trusts– across England. Skype doctors freed up 2,000 GP appointments over the past two years
Doctors and nurses who are using Skype to treat older people in their homes have freed up 2,000 GP appointments, according to NHS England.  An integrated programme in Tameside - part of the NHS long term plan - set up a direct link between doctors, nurses and community teams such as care home staff and housing wardens, enabling clinicians to see and advise patients via Skype.  The Skype team receives around 8,000 calls a year. Hide related content:  Show related contentread more (Source: Management in Practice)

Revealed: more surgeries than ever closed last year

North-West hospital trust in talks to take over five practices

Minor ailments training for Welsh pharmacists could ‘free up GP time’
New minor ailments training for pharmacists is set to‘free up GP time’, the Welsh Government announced last week (23 May).  A£100,000 investment will see 50 pharmacists across the country receive specialist training in triaging and treating minor ailments such as chicken pox, conjunctivitis, sore throats, acute backache and acute dermatitis.  This will relieve the‘growing pressure’ on primary care services and‘free up GP time to manage more complex patient cases’, the Government said.Hide related content:  Show related contentread more (Source: Management in Practice)
