Downregulated MALAT1 relates to recurrent pregnancy loss via sponging miRNAs
In conclusion, MALAT1 as a functional lncRNA controls cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion and modulates blood vessel formation. Down regulated MALAT1 induced disordered cross-talk between embryo and mother is one of the factor contributes to the pathogenesis of RPL. (Source: The Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences)

Mir-483 inhibits colon cancer cell proliferation and migration by targeting TRAF1
Publication date: Available online 24 May 2018Source: The Kaohsiung Journal of Medical SciencesAuthor(s): Zi-Yu Niu, Wen-Li Li, Da-Lei Jiang, Yan-Song Li, Xiang-Jun XieAbstractMicroRNAs are important regulators during human growth and development. Emerging evidence indicates that microRNAs play important roles in colorectal cancer. The aim of this study is to reveal the biological function and direct target gene of miR-483 in colorectal cancer. The biological function of miR-483 on the proliferation and migration of colon cancer cells was then examined by Edu assay and transwell assay, respectively. Our findings revealed t...

Impaired cutaneous T-cell attracting chemokine elevation and adipose-derived stromal cell migration in a high-glucose environment cause poor diabetic wound healing
In this study, we introduced adipose-derived stromal cells (ADSCs) into wound sites and demonstrated that the local transplantation of ADSCs accelerated DM-related wound healing. Furthermore, the migration ability of ADSCs, which diminishes in a high-glucose environment, was partially restored by the exogenous replenishment of the cutaneous T-cell attracting chemokine (CTACK/CCL27). Our findings suggest that CTACK is a potential novel therapeutic target in DM-related wound healing. (Source: The Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences)

Expression and significance of ASPP2 in squamous carcinoma of esophagus
Publication date: June 2018Source: The Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, Volume 34, Issue 6Author(s): Bo Liu, Lv Yang, Xiu-Juan Li, Rou Li, Wei Sun, Xiao-Yi Chen, Jun-Chao LiuAbstractTo study the significance of apoptosis stimulating protein of P53 2 (ASPP2) expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), immunohistochemistry S-P method was used to examine the expression of ASPP2 in 136 cases of ESCC, 35 cases of high grade intraepithelial neoplasia (HGIN), 29 cases of low grade intraepithelial neoplasia (LGIN) and 37 cases of normal esophageal epithelium (NEE). The associations of ASPP2 expression with clini...

Induction of immune tolerance and altered cytokine expression in skin transplantation recipients
This study aimed to investigate the influence of the preoperative transfusion of apoptotic lymphocytes on allograft survival after skin transplantation. In addition, we aimed to determine changes in IL-4, IL-10 and IFN-γ mRNA expression in the grafted skin. A total of 20 New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into two groups: lymphocyte preconditioned group (n = 10) and control group (n = 10). Rabbits in the lymphocyte preconditioned group were intravenously injected with 60Co γ-treated donor lymphocytes at seven days before the surgery. Rabbits in the control group were intravenously injected with normal ly...

miR-429 expression in bladder cancer and its correlation with tumor behavior and clinical outcome
Publication date: June 2018Source: The Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, Volume 34, Issue 6Author(s): Chia-Lun Wu, Jar-Yi Ho, Shun-Hsing Hung, Dah-Shyong YuAbstractWe previously showed that microRNA-429 (miR-429) played an important role in epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) of urothelial cell carcinoma of the bladder. We herein evaluated the expression of miR-429 in bladder cancer and its potential relevance to clinicopathological characteristics and patient survival. Relative expression levels of miR-429 in surgical bladder cancer tissue specimens obtained from 76 patients with bladder cancer were measured by...

Lymph node ratio as an alternative to pN staging for predicting prognosis after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer
Publication date: June 2018Source: The Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, Volume 34, Issue 6Author(s): Dong Hui Cho, Soo Youn Bae, Ji Young You, Hong Kyu Kim, Young Woo Chang, Yoo Jin Choi, Sang Uk Woo, Gil Soo Son, Jae Bok Lee, Jeoung Won Bae, Seung Pil JungAbstractAxillary nodal status is one of the most important prognostic factors in breast cancer. The lymph node ratio (LNR) has been suggested as an independent prognostic factor because the number of dissected and involved lymph nodes might differ across institutions. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has been the preferred treatment method for reducing tumor mass in ...

Comparison of miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy and flexible ureterorenoscopy for moderate size renal stones in elderly patients
Publication date: June 2018Source: The Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, Volume 34, Issue 6Author(s): Faruk Ozgor, Fatih Yanaral, Metin Savun, Harun Ozdemir, Ufuk Caglar, Omer SarilarAbstractLife expectancy has become longer, thus the number of elderly people who require treatment for nephrolithiasis has increased. We aimed to analyze the efficacy of flexible ureterorenoscopy (f-URS) and miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mPNL) in the management of 10 and 30 mm renal stones in patients aged>60 years. In prospective non-randomized series, the data of patients who underwent f-URS or mPNL for kidney stones betwee...
