Prevalence of lower extremities peripheral arterial disease among Egyptian ischemic patients attending cardiac rehabilitation unit
ConclusionThis study shows that significant PAD is present in almost 15% of ischemic Egyptian patients. We recommend ABI to be done routinely in patients with significant CAD for exclusion or diagnosis of PAD to help in treatment and improving quality of life in addition to modification of cardiac rehabilitation program in presence of PAD according to its severity. Clinical utility of left ventricular strain, wall stress and serum brain natriuretic peptide levels in chronic hemodialysis patients
ConclusionLV-GLS and LVMWS are useful imaging markers for detection of LV dysfunction in HD patients. Serum BNP level is influenced by LV structural abnormalities and suggested to be a crucial hemodynamic biomarker in those patients. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Idiopathic short-coupled ventricular tachyarrhythmias: Systematic review and validation of electrocardiographic indices
ConclusionIdiopathic short-coupled ventricular tachyarrhythmias encompass all previous descriptions of this tachyarrhythmia including idiopathic ventricular fibrillation, short-coupled torsades de pointes, Purkinje-related torsades de pointes and idiopathic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia. This arrhythmia can be diagnosed by newly proposed criteria with high sensitivity and specificity. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Primary cardiac hemangioendothelioma of the mitral valve
In this report, a case of hemangioendothelioma arose from the mitral valve and was successfully resected, and after few months the tumor recurred and infiltrated the heart. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Impact of fractional flow reserve on decision-making in daily clinical practice: A single center experience in Egypt
ConclusionMismatches between visually- and FFR- estimated significance of intermediate coronary stenosis are frequently encountered across a wide spectrum of clinical presentations. FFR leads to a change in decision for coronary intervention. The clinical and cost implications of such changes-in areas with limited resources- needs further evaluation. Waist height ratio and waist circumference in relation to hypertension, Framingham risk score in hospitalized elderly Egyptians
ConclusionWHtR and WC are strong risk factors for hypertension and cardiovascular events in Egyptian elderly female patients. WHtR is the best anthropometric predictor for hypertension and cardiovascular events in male patients. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Assessment of left ventricular regional wall motion abnormalities using regional time-volume curves obtained by real time three-dimensional echocardiography
ConclusionThree-dimensional echocardiography is an easy, non-invasive and objective tool to detect regional wall motion abnormalities in ischemic patients. It shows comparable results with conventional 2D images with the advantage of quantitative assessment of regional myocardial function. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Transradial artery approach in STEMI patients reperfused early and late by either primary PCI or pharmaco-invasive approach
In conclusion, it is safe and effective to use TRA in STEMI patients who reperfused by either early or late PPCI or PI. We recommend PI for STEMI patients with delay presentation if PPCI is not available. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Tissue characterization of non-culprit intermediate coronary lesions in non ST elevation acute coronary syndromes
ConclusionsA higher lipidic content in lesions of culprit vessels, while the lesions of non-culprit vessels were more calcific. Higher calcific content of proximal more than distal lesions was defined as well. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

The degree of hair graying as an independent risk marker for coronary artery disease, a CT coronary angiography study
ConclusionsHigher HWS was associated with increased coronary artery calcification and risk of CAD independent of chronological age and other established cardiovascular risk factors. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Stent boost enhancement compared to intravascular ultrasound in the evaluation of stent expansion in elective percutaneous coronary interventions
ConclusionsStentBoost enhancement has superior correlations for stent expansion measured by IVUS when compared with QCA. SB enhancement improved stent visualization and identification of stent underexpansion to guide stent postdilatation. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)

Cardiovascular risk of circulating endotoxin level in prevalent hemodialysis patients
ConclusionAcute increase in post dialytic circulating endotoxin level in prevalent HD patients may be associated with both left ventricular systolic and diastolic dysfunction and that attempts to reduce endotoxin level may have a positive impact on cardiovascular complications in HD Patients. Increased arterial stiffness in rheumatoid arthritis and Its relation to disease activity: A cross sectional study
ConclusionRA is associated with increased arterial stiffness, a well-recognized marker of cardiovascular risk. This is attributed to the inflammatory nature of the disease. It seems that the most important factors determining stiffness are patients' age and duration of illness. (Source: The Egyptian Heart Journal)
