Insomnia symptoms and sleep duration and their combined effects in relation to associations with obesity and central obesity
Previous studies have shown that both sleep duration and insomnia have an impact on obesity and central obesity. However, studies of the joint effects of these sleep disorders are still sparse. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

Validation of semiautomatic scoring of REM sleep without atonia in patients with RBD
To evaluate REM sleep without atonia (RSWA) in REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) several automatic algorithms have been developed. We aimed to validate our algorithm (Mayer et al. 2008) in order to assess 1. capability of the algorithm to differentiate between RBD, night terror (NT), somnambulism (SW), Restless legs syndrome (RLS) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), 2. cut-off values for short (SMI) and long muscle activity (LMI), 3. which muscles qualify best for differential diagnosis, and 4. comparability of RSWA and registered movements between automatic and visual analysis of videometry. The bidirectional relationship between sleep duration and depression in community-dwelling middle-aged and elderly individuals: Evidence from a longitudinal study
There are several studies that have focused on the relationship between sleep duration and depression, however, only a few prospective studies have centered on the bidirectional relationship between them. This four-year longitudinal study aimed to identify the association between sleep duration and depression in community-dwelling mid-age and elderly individuals. (Source: Sleep Medicine)

The serotonin transporter 5-HTTLPR polymorphism and the risk for insomnia: a non-replication
In the June 2014 issue of Sleep Medicine, Huang et  al. (2014) reported a genetic association study investigating the effect of 5-HTTLPR on insomnia [1]. In line with previous findings [2], the results demonstrated that the 5-HTTLPR short allele was associated with a higher insomnia risk relative to the long allele. The authors revealed that an int eraction between 5-HTTLPR and stress may further contribute to this relationship, corresponding with earlier findings on subjective sleep quality [3]. Intracerebral Hemorrhage and Sleep-Disordered Breathing
Limited data are available on sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) following intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Our aim was to characterize objective measures of post-ICH SDB, and questionnaire-reported pre-ICH sleep characteristics, overall and by ethnicity. (Source: Sleep Medicine)
