The Relationship Between Sacral Slope and Symptomatic Isthmic Spondylolysis in a Cohort of High School Athletes: A Retrospective Analysis
ConclusionsThe interdependence of positional parameters, such as sacral slope, with anatomic parameters, such as pelvic incidence, can affect lumbar lordosis and therefore upright positioning and loading of the spine. Sacral slope may be an important variable for clinicians to consider when caring for young athletes with low back pain, particularly when the index of suspicion for spondylolysis is high.Level of EvidenceIV (Source: PMandR)

Impact of Critical Illness Polyneuromyopathy in Rehabilitation: A Prospective Observational Study
ConclusionsCIPNM is very common in rehabilitation inpatients with a history of ICU admission. It was associated with a lower functional status at rehabilitation admission, but functional improvement was at a similar rate to those without CIPNM. Longer RLOS stay may be required to achieve the same functional level.Level of EvidenceIII (Source: PMandR)

The Effects of an 8-Week Stabilization Exercise Program on Lumbar Multifidus Muscle Thickness and Activation as Measured With Ultrasound Imaging in Patients With Low Back Pain: An Exploratory Study
ConclusionsPatients showed less muscle activation than controls at baseline (L5-S1 level), but the LSEP did not normalize this impairment. The links between RUSI measures and the change in clinical outcomes during LSEP should be further explored. This clinical trial has been recorded in the International Standard Registered Clinical/soCial sTudy Number (ISRCTN) registry (ID: ISRCTN94152969).Level of EvidenceII (Source: PMandR)

Diagnostic Validity of Combining History Elements and Physical Examination Tests for Traumatic and Degenerative Symptomatic Meniscal Tears
ConclusionDiagnostic clusters combining history elements and physical examination tests can support the differential diagnosis of SMT. These results represent the initial derivation of the clusters and external validation is mandatory.Level of EvidenceI (Source: PMandR)

Use of Mental Health Services by Adolescents After Traumatic Brain Injury: A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial
ConclusionsLess than one half of adolescents with behavioral health needs after TBI received mental health services. Future studies are needed to examine barriers associated with seeking services after TBI and psychoeducation as preventive care for this population.Level of EvidenceII (Source: PMandR)

Anxiety and Insomnia in Young and Middle-Aged Adult Hip Pain Patients With and Without Femoroacetabular Impingement and Developmental Hip Dysplasia
ConclusionHip pain patients with radiographs demonstrating minimal to no hip arthritis with and without hip deformity experience significant cofounding yet modifiable disorders of sleep and anxiety. If recognized early in presentation, treatment of insomnia and anxiety ultimately will improve outcomes for hip patients treated either conservatively or surgically for their hip disorder.Level of EvidenceII (Source: PMandR)

Feedback Facility−Assisted Balance Training in a Patient With Multiple System Atrophy: A Case Presentation
Publication date: May 2018Source: PM&R, Volume 10, Issue 5Author(s): Hyo Jeong Lee, Ko Eun Lee, Tae Im Yi, Hyun Young KimAbstractMultiple system atrophy is a rare neurodegenerative disease with a poor prognosis. Furthermore, there are no pharmacological or notable rehabilitation strategies available to prevent the worsening of the disease. This case presentation assessed the outcome of feedback facility−assisted balance training in combination with physical therapy in a 61-year-old man. The patient participated in 30 training sessions over 6 weeks for 30 minutes each that involved balance training. His static and dynamic...
