Occurence of left main occlusion on Tuesday: Chronobiology of acute myocardial infarction due to left main disease
ConclusionThe relation between AMI onset and the day of the week is confirmed by our study, which also suggests that in case of a left main lesion, some delay of the weekend effect might be expected. (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)

Comparison between two protocols for deflation of the TR band following coronary procedures via the radial route
ConclusionA protocol of delayed initiation of TR band deflation followed by quick deflations is associated with a lower time to band removal with no increase in bleeding complications or patient satisfaction. Staff however prefer longer intervals between deflations . (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)

Systemic Immune-Inflammation index Predicts Mortality in Infective Endocarditis
ConclusionWe demonstrated that high SII levels are independently associated with in-hospital mortality. The SII may be a promising prognostic predictor for patients with infective endocarditis. (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)

Cardiac amyloidosis—an underdiagnosed cause of heart failure in the elderly
We present the case of an 84-year-old man with chest tightness, dyspnoea, and ascites. He had a history of dyslipidaemia and ischaemic heart disease. Initial investigations showed severe diastolic dysfunction and elevated pulmonary artery systolic pressure on echocardiogram along with elevated serum natriuretic peptides. Further evaluation by a magnetic resonance imaging scan of the heart and endomyocardial biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of senile systemic amyloidosis. He made good progress after treatment with conventional heart failure drugs and is currently under consideration to start on specific medications to slow do...

We present the case of an 84-years old man with chest tightness, dyspnoea and ascites. He had a history of dyslipidaemia and ischaemic heart disease. Initial investigations showed severe diastolic dysfunction and elevated PASP on echocardiogram along with elevated serum natriuretic peptides. Further evaluation by MRI scan of heart and endomyocardial biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of senile systemic amyloidosis. He made good progress after treatment with conventional heart failure drugs and is currently under consideration to start on specific medications to slow down the progression of amyloidosis. Effects of cardiopulmonary bypass perfusion temperature on perioperative renal function in adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery
ConclusionsCPB with moderate hypothermia for valvular heart surgeries can be performed safely in patients with adequate renal functional reserve. The glomerular permeability across the Bowman’s capsule increases after CPB as evidenced by significant proteinuria at 12 hrs and increased albuminuria at 48 hrs after surgery. There is an increased risk of transient stage I Acute Kidney Injury after cardiopulmonary bypass which recovers within 48 hours. (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)

Impact of stent of ductus arteriosus and modified Blalock–Taussig shunt on pulmonary arteries growth and second-stage surgery in infants with ductus-dependent pulmonary circulation
ConclusionsIn neonates with ductus-dependent pulmonary circulation, PDA stenting can be introduced as a safe first possible option to augment pulmonary blood flow with good outcome and prepare them for second-stage palliation. Unattainable PDA stenting or failure or inadequacy occurred in 30% of cases where surgical option remains a standard option. (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)
