Management strategies of ACS for Hajj patients
ConclusionOur findings indicate gender related disparities of ACS-hajj patients. Although women were more likely to have higher numbers of ACS-risk factors, they showed lesser prevalence of aggressive CAD findings in coronary angiography with higher rate of non-invasive treatment strategies. Modelling the burden of cardiovascular disease in Saudi Arabia and the impact of reducing modifiable risk factors
ConclusionThe burden of CVD is significant and growing. Efforts to achieve WHO risk factor targets and further lower LDL-cholesterol through increased access to effective treatment for high-risk patients are projected to greatly reduce the clinical, economic, and humanistic burden of cardiovascular disease in Saudi Arabia. Predictors of discordance between fractional flow reserve and instantaneous wave-free ratio in the real world
ConclusionOur study shows that almost a quarter of lesions show discordance for FFR and iFR with a female preponderance. The four groups classified according to FFR and iFR are characterized by differences in clinical characteristics and predictors of discordance. The lesions with discordant FFR and iFR may have a different pathophysiology which warrants further investigation. (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)

Safety and feasibility of returning patients immediately to their originating hospitals after primary percutaneous coronary intervention
ConclusionThe immediate return of low risk STEMI patients to their originating hospitals after PPCI is safe and feasible and is effective strategy to provide this prefer and effective re-perfusion therapy to vast majority of patients with STEMI. (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)

Temporal trends in stress Myocardial Perfusion Imaging (MPI) studies in patients with Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) and with no CAD among Saudi Arabian’s population
ConclusionThere has been a temporal decline in the prevalence of abnormal and ischemic MPI studies over a period of 11 years. However, this decline is significantly lower than the previously reported from western cohorts. (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)

The clinical use of red cell distribution width in advanced heart failure following cardiac resynchronization therapy
ConclusionBaseline RDW had no independent role in predicting outcomes of advanced HF after CRT insertion. During follow-up, persistently elevated RDW correlated with HF morbidity and mortality. (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)

Prevalence of lipid abnormalities and cholesterol target value attainment in patients with coronary heart disease in Saudi Arabia
ConclusionAchievement of recommended LDL-C levels was poor for both patients with stable CHD and those admitted to hospital as a result of an ACS. Statin intensity was low, indicating huge scope for improving the treatment of these very high risk patients. (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)

Referral to coronary angiography post myocardial perfusion imaging
ConclusionThis study found that the increase in patient’s age, Summed Different Score, Transient Ischemic Dilation, ischemia group, and having CAD can predict an increased in the coronary angiography referral, and CVA is a protective factor for referral to coronary angiography. Pulse pressure in acute heart failure: Insights from the hearts registry
ConclusionLow PP was not predictive of mortality in the overall AHF population. However, it still remains an important prognostic marker in the HFrEF phenotype. (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)

Giant right coronary artery aneurysm secondary to Kawasaki disease in an infant
We report here one of the patients who developed a giant coronary aneurysm but fortunately not a life threatening complication after 5 years of follow-up. We conclude that later intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) treatment could be an important factor - among others - that precipitate into such complications.1,5,8) (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)

Spectrum of morphological abnormalities and treatment outcomes in secundum type of atrial septal defects: Singe center experience in over 500 cases
ConclusionsTCC offered a success rate of 91% in complex defects after TEE selection. Very large size and deficient inferior, posterior rims predicted failure of TCC. Surgery offered 100% success and it involved a longer hospital and ICU stay. The long-term clinical results were identical with both the treatment modalities. Serum Endostatin Level as a Marker for Coronary Artery Calcification in Type 2 Diabetic Patients
ConclusionsMeasurement of serum ES levels can improve diagnosis of CAC and could be useful as a high sensitive marker for the presence and progression of atherosclerosis in T2DM patients. (Source: Journal of the Saudi Heart Association)

Safety and efficacy of transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect type II under transthoracic echocardiographic guidance: A case control study
ConclusionsWe conclude that transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect under fluoroscopy and transthoracic echo guidance is safe and successful in selected patients who have single central atrial septal defect with adequate septal lengths and adequate septal rims, with high incidence of complete occlusion rate.
