Titanium dioxide-based scanning powder can modulate cell activity of oral soft tissue - Insights from in vitro studies with L929 cells and periodontal fibroblasts
ConclusionsScanning powder decreased cell activity and induced cell death in L929 cells at high concentrations. Human oral fibroblasts showed an increase in IL-6 levels but more resistance to the cytotoxicity of the powder. Within the limitations of an in vitro study our results suggest that proper cleaning after scanning is of clinical relevance to avoid potential unwanted effects of the powder. Torsion and linear accuracy in intraoral scans obtained with different scanning principles
ConclusionsAlthough the highest torsion was observed for the TD scanner, it is still not clear whether the differences between the IOS are related to the scanning principle or to the scanning algorithm. Due to the high clinical relevance of full-arch restorations, future studies should consider torsion. Regarding linear accuracy, no general difference related to the scanning principles of the IOSs was observed. (Source: Journal of Prosthodontic Research)

Influence of implant scanbody material, position and operator on the accuracy of digital impression for complete-arch: A randomized in vitro trial
ConclusionsThe investigated IOS for complete-arch digital impression was influenced by the ISB material with peek reporting the best results on both linear and angular measurements followed by titanium, peek-titanium resulting as the less accurate. Implant angulation affected significantly the linear deviations while implant position the angular deviations. Operator did not show any significant effect on the IOS accuracy. Adhesion of porcelain to three-dimensionally printed and soft milled cobalt chromium
ConclusionsBoth manufacturing methods showed regular microstructures prior to porcelain firing. Laser-sintered CoCr had stronger bonding to porcelain than milled pre-sintered CoCr and was also more stable microstructurally post-ceramic firing. However, both manufacturing methods were deemed to have satisfactory adhesion strength to porcelain. It was also found that increased hardness of CoCr had an inverse relationship with bonding strength. High strength porcelain bonding and stability following multiple ceramic firings indicate suitability for use of these CoCr materials with implant or tooth supported long-span framewor...

Novel fully digital workflow for removable partial denture fabrication
ConclusionsRPDs were successfully fabricated using fully digital workflow and delivered to the patient, and no clinical complications were reported. Within the limitations of this report, the newly developed RPD fabrication techniques have the potential to change clinical and laboratory workflow from analog to digital. Full arch precision of six intraoral scanners in vitro
ConclusionsUpper-bound deviation of a cropped scan may provide a clinically useful metric for scanner precision. The Aadva, 3Shape, CEREC and TDS produced scans potentially appropriate for clinical use while Planmeca and Dentalwings produced deviations greater than 0.3 mm when measuring the upper-bound deviation. Microstructure, topography, surface roughness, fractal dimension, internal and marginal adaptation of pressed and milled lithium-disilicate monolithic restorations
ConclusionsCAD/CAM and the pressing techniques for manufacturing LD crowns lead to completely different ceramic surface characteristics and affect crown adaptation at the margin and at occluso-axial angle. (Source: Journal of Prosthodontic Research)

Maxillary implant overdentures retained by use of bars or locator attachments: 1-year findings from a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsMaxillary overdentures on four implants retained by bars or locators were compared. Bone loss was within an acceptable range for both groups after 1 year. However, less bone was lost in the bar group. Even though both treatment options improved patient satisfaction, bars seem to be particularly beneficial with regard to OHIP-49 sum score. Patient satisfaction and preference with thermoplastic resin removable partial dentures: a randomised cross-over trial
ConclusionsThese results suggest that TR-RPDs hold an advantage over MC-RPDs in terms of oral appearance and can offer greater satisfaction than MC-RPDs in partially dentate arches with at least an occluding pair in the posterior region.Clinical trial registrationUMIN Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN000007310). Changes in oxygen and carbon dioxide in the genesis of sleep bruxism: a mechanism study
ConclusionsThe mild transient hypoxia observed before RMMA onset was not associated with a change in ETCO2. The mild and brief oxygen fluctuations before RMMA onset may reflect a physiological response that seems to have little influence on SB genesis. (Source: Journal of Prosthodontic Research)

Effects of denture adhesives on growth and morphological transformation of Candida albicans
ConclusionsThe denture adhesives used in this study accelerated the growth of C. albicans. Moreover, the early transformation to the hyphal form on the Cr- and Po-type adhesives was observed, suggesting that we should carefully use Cr- and Po-type adhesives.
