An Unusual Presentation of Iatrogenic Cushing ’s Syndrome
Publication date: Available online 13 December 2017 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Praneeth Polamuri, Anuj Kapadiya, Praveen Nagula, Uday Kiran Anne, Vijaya Lakshmi Nuthakki, Kiranmayi K. Anjani Cushing’s syndrome (CS) constitutes a constellation of clinical features that result from chronic exposure to excess glucocorticoids of any etiology. Endogenous excess of glucocorticoids secondary to pituitary or adrenal tumors is rare, while the exogenous use of glucocorticoids leading to the CS is common. The latter is termed as Iatrogenic Cushing’s Syndrome (ICS). The patients with ICS usua...

Myeloperoxidase, protein carbonyls and oxidative stress in coronary artery disease
Conclusion Our study shows that an increase in MPO levels is associated with oxidative stress and MPO is also observed to be a significant predictor of CAD. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Myxoedema crisis as a cause for reversible complete heart block
Publication date: Available online 27 October 2017 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Stuart M. Moss, Vinayak Nagaraja, Ee-May Chia An 85year old female was brought in to hospital confused, dyspnoeic and pre-syncopal and was found to be bradycardic down to 19bpm and hypothermic down to 34.5°C. She was found to be hypothyroid which required insertion of a temporary pacing system. Thyroid function resolved and she was no long pacing dependent. This case highlights the sinister outcomes that can arise from thyroid dysfunction, which can be successfully treated if identified early enough. (Source: ...

The micro-albuminuria is a new predictor of atrial fibrillation in hypertensive patients
Conclusion Micro-albuminuria was the strongest predictor of AF in hypertensive patients. Recommendation and clinical implications The early detection and treatment of micro-albuminuria is accompanied by an improved cardiovascular prognosis in hypertensive patients and prevent new onset of atrial fibrillation. An unusual presentation of asymptomatic Type 2 Brugada pattern
We present the case of a 56year old male whom was brought following a witnessed out of hospital cardiac arrest. His background included a drug-induced type 1 Brugada pattern following a flecanide challenge. He has been asymptomatic until this event. In the absence of other causes for a cardiac arrest, he received an implantable cardiac defibrillator. This case highlights an uncommon presentation of a patient with a Drug Induced Type 1 Brugada pattern. These situations pose challenges to clinicians in surveillance of patients, and highlights the need for further research into predictive markers for sudden cardiac death. (So...

Incidence of contrast induced acute kidney injury in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention in north Indian population
Conclusion In the era of PCI for CAD patients, CIN is a frequent complication, even in patients with normal renal function, and is associated with a more complicated in-hospital course. In overburdened Indian hospitals, CIN is frequently underreported because of day care procedures and early discharge. We found a new factor for development of CIN.CIN was associated with ≥3 number of stents deployment, contrast volume more than 250ml, EF ≤30% and in diabetic patients. There was no effect of isoosmolar contrast from low osmolar contrast. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Publication date: Available online 1 September 2017 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Varun Nivargi, C.N. Makhale, M.S. Hiremath A 54 year old male patient diabetic with history of coronary angioplasty 4 years back with a DRUG ELUTING STENT presented with Anterior wall ST segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction. He was taken up for primary angioplasty, diagnostic angiogram showed 100% thrombotic occlusion of proximal left anterior descending artery with an aneurysm. A stent boost was done which showed a fragmented left anterior descending artery stent with disarticulation of both fragments. Two...

Paediatric Renal Intervention using Drug eluting stents for Resistant Renovascular Hypertension secondary to Takayasu's aortoarteritis: a new ray of hope
Publication date: Available online 26 August 2017 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Pankaj Jariwala Renovascular hypertension contributes 5-25% of the causes of hypertension in paediatric population and Takayasu's aortoarteritis are one of the common aetiology of it in the Asian countries. Renal artery stenosis is amenable for revascularization and can lead to cure of hypertension in this age group. The only limitation in patients of Takayasu's aortoarteritis is the higher restenosis rate, which leads to rebound hypertension and repeat revascularization. The use of drug eluting stents has been we...

128-Slice MDCT angiographic evaluation of coronary artery anomalies in the South Asian (Indian) population – A first experience
Conclusion 128 slice MDCT coronary angiography provides high temporal & spatial resolution along with a very precise volume rendering 3D imaging which enables the diagnosis of coronary artery anomalies unchallenging. Our study showed that the incidence of coronary artery anomalies was far higher in the Indian population when compared with the western or global population, emphasising further the need for such a study, in view of the high incidence of cardiovascular diseases in India when compared with the rest of the world.
