Developing the therapeutic conversation: a conversation analysis of information giving in Family Domains Therapy
This study is the first to use applied conversation analysis (CA) to explore the interactional impact of giving information regarding a therapeutic model during therapy sessions. Using techniques of conversation analysis this paper offers a description of the four formats therapists used to give information in this therapeutic setting (non ‐technical scenarios, ‘if X then Y’ format, technical paraphrase and formulation format). Family of origin scripts in coping with adversity: a question
AbstractIn this brief clinical practice paper I suggest a question that can be used in work with families, couples and individuals to address family of origin scripts in coping with adversity. I give a brief background to the question and two examples of its use in practice, including how I respond to the feedback to the question using a previously published idea – an ‘equation for change’ (Mason, 2010, 2011). I end with some concluding thoughts about the use of the question and the potential value of further research. (Source: Journal of Family Therapy)

Symbolic action methods: how systemic team consultation can help to strengthen the self ‐concept of teams and foster team cohesion
This article describes a workshop format including three symbolic action methods, i.e. the ‘who is who sculpture’, the ‘walking through a team’s history’ technique and the ‘speech chorus’ for use in systemic team consultation. The described action methods are suited for work with large teams and small organisations. They help team members to quickly understand their internal diversity and develop a joint sense of the team’s history, hence strengthening the team’s self‐concept and fostering team cohesion. Teams are thereby enabled to find ways out of experienced states of collective depression or anxiety...
