Paediatric gastrostomy stoma complications and treatments: A rapid scoping review
ConclusionsThe evidence on the comparative effectiveness of different treatment strategies of skin‐related gastrostomy stoma complications in paediatric practice is sparse. Current evidence is generally limited to expert opinions. Future studies examining efficacy of treatments and their indications for use with children are warranted. Relevance to clinical practiceEffective management of skin‐related stoma complications is important to maintain health and wellness among children who rely on G‐ and GJ‐tubes for nutrition support. The lived experience of autologous stem cell ‐transplanted patients: Post‐transplantation and before discharge
ConclusionThis study showed how the haematopoietic stem cell transplantation affected the patients’ physical, psychological and spiritual well‐being. Transplantation also impacted on the patients’ way of thinking and perception of life. Attending to patients’ needs during transplantation might help to alleviate the severity of the effects and therefore improve experience. Relevance to clinical practiceComprehensive information about transplantation needs to be provided over different intervals and at different occasions. The role of the haematopoietic stem cell transplantation coordinators is important,...

Barriers to midwives and nurses addressing mental health issues with women during the perinatal period: The Mind Mothers study
ConclusionsMidwives and primary care nurses encounter many organisational‐ and practitioner‐related barriers that negatively impact on their ability to incorporate mental health care into their practice. Relevance to clinical practiceMidwifery and nursing services need to develop strategies to address system‐ and practitioner‐related barriers, including the development of services and care pathways, and the provision of culturally sensitive education on perinatal mental health in order to support practitioners to address issues with confidence and competence. A fundamental conflict of care: Nurses ’ accounts of balancing patients' sleep with taking vital sign observations at night
ConclusionIn this study, we found an early warning score algorithm focused on deterioration prevention did not account for long‐term management or palliative care trajectories. Nurses were therefore less inclined to wake such patients to take vital sign observations at night. However, the perception of widespread exceptions and lack of evidence regarding optimum frequency risks delegitimising the early warning score approach. This may pose a risk to patient safety, particularly patients with dementia or chronic conditions. Relevance to clinical practiceNurses should document exceptions and discuss these with the wider te...

Caring for patients on home enteral nutrition: Reported complications by home carers and perspectives of community nurses
ConclusionTo facilitate a better transition of care for patients, adequate training for carers, standardising clinical practice in managing patients with HEN and improving communication between home care services and the acute care hospitals are needed. Relevance to clinical practiceThis study highlighted the challenges faced by community home care nurses and carers. Results of this study would help to inform future policies and practice changes that would improve the quality of care received by patients on HEN.This article is protected by copyright. Attributions of Victim Blame in Stranger and Acquaintance Rape: A Quantitative Study
ConclusionsThis paper gives a novel insight into attitudes involved in victim blame in rape cases, and makes a unique comparison between nurses and the general public. Findings suggests that victim blame correlates primarily with aggressively sexist attitudes, and that nurses generally attribute more blame to the victim of acquaintance rape. Relevance to clinical practiceThis study has practical implications for the provision of medical services for victims of sexual assault, as it highlights problems in identifying and accessing rape victims, as well as recommending the sexual assault training of all practicing nurses.Thi...
