Reexamining trait rumination as a system of repetitive negative thoughts: A network analysis
ConclusionsOf the larger set of cognitive patterns forming the rumination construct, the high centrality nodes were largely passive and self-critical processes. Community detection analyses identified a sub-network largely comprising items from the RRS that have traditionally been labeled reflective pondering and adaptive; however, strong bridge nodes were also from this community. This implies that in isolation or at low levels such processes may not be problematic, but that their persistence or intensification could be associated with the activation of more maladaptive processes. Synchronous change in subjective and physiological reactivity during flight as an indicator of treatment outcome for aviophobia: A longitudinal study with 3-year follow-up
ConclusionThe results provide only weak support for the functionalistic view that successful treatment of anxiety disorders is indicated by synchronous change in reactivity across emotional response systems. The relationship between these systems is likely to be affected by many intervening variables including higher order cognitive processes. Contingent biofeedback outperforms other methods to enhance the accuracy of cardiac interoception: A comparison of short interventions
ConclusionsThe results provide evidence for the trainability of heartbeat perception. IA improvements may reduce the symptom burden in people suffering from mental disorders and psychophysiological conditions that have been linked to lower interoceptive accuracy such as depression, somatic symptom disorder, chronic pain, and functional somatic syndromes. Consequently, exploration of biofeedback training procedures shall be continued with the aim of identifying relevant mediators of beneficial effects and future implementation in clinical practice. Symptoms of depression and the discrepancy between implicit and explicit self-esteem
ConclusionsWhile damaged self-esteem may be a meaningful marker of depressive symptoms, it should be noted that the association between symptoms of depression and the interaction of ISE and ESE may be driven primarily by the strong link between ESE and depression. As prior studies of ESE and ISE have not looked, specifically, at the relative contributions of both constructs, this issue needs further investigation in future research. Repetitive negative thinking as a mediator in prospective cross-disorder associations between anxiety and depression disorders and their symptoms
ConclusionsFrom these results it can be concluded that repetitive negative thinking could be an important transdiagnostic factor, that may constitute a suitable target for treatment. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Effects of "Visual Schema Displacement Therapy" (VSDT), an abbreviated EMDR protocol and a control condition on emotionality and vividness of aversive memories: Two critical analogue studies
ConclusionsIt is unclear how VSDT yields positive effects, but irrespective of its causal mechanisms, VSDT warrants clinical exploration. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Patients with borderline personality disorder and comorbid PTSD show biased attention for threat in the facial dot-probe task
ConclusionsThese findings provide first evidence for an AB towards angry faces and difficulties disengaging from these threat-related social cues in adult BPD patients. Although BPD patients in general demonstrated an AB when compared with controls, this effect was especially pronounced for BPD with PTSD, suggesting a significant effect of trauma-related psychopathology on social attention in BPD. Consider others better than yourself: Social decision-making and partner preference in Borderline Personality Disorder
ConclusionsOur study demonstrates no differences in fairness perception but an alteration in partner preference of patients with BPD which might contribute to unfavorable partner choices and impairments of interpersonal functioning in BPD. Virtual social support buffers stress response: An experimental comparison of real-life and virtual support prior to a social stressor
ConclusionsVirtual social support is as effective as face-to-face support in terms of stress buffering, as long as the recipient has the impression that it is provided by another human (via an avatar). This has wide ranging implications not only for health-related application in prevention and treatment but also for further research. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Social anxiety and sensitivity to social-rank features in male faces
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that SA is related to an enhanced ability to discriminate faces based on social-rank features. Examining sensitivity to facial cues signaling social-rank and affiliation may help to specify the nature of social threat sensitivity in SA. Problematic attention processing and fear learning in adolescent anxiety: Testing a combined cognitive and learning processes model
ConclusionsThis study provides unique evidence of the combined effects of attention and fear generalisation mechanisms in explaining youth anxiety, and interrelations between these factors. Importantly, results suggested that deficiencies in attention control may bring out anxiety-associated impairments in fear generalisation.LimitationsWe relied on self-reported ratings of fear during generalization and also of attention control. Thus demand effects cannot be discounted. Reaction-time measures of attention focus are also indirect assessments of attention that may lack precision. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Ex...
