Psychopathy subfactors distinctively predispose to dispositional and state-level of sadistic pleasure.
ConclusionsOur findings underscore the differential predictive value of psychopathy components for sadistic pleasure. Coldheartedness can be considered especially disturbing because of its unique relationship to harm-infliction of the most irreversible nature (i.e. killing), and gaining pleasure out of it. Standard of proof and intolerance of uncertainty in obsessive-compulsive disorder and social anxiety disorder
ConclusionsIU for general, non-OCD specific scenarios may not figure prominently in all individuals with OCD, but rather may play a larger, more consistent role in anxiety disorders such as SAD. Additionally, the number of beads or words viewed on Beads Task may be an inadequate behavioral measure of IU. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Difficulty in updating positive beliefs about negative cognition is associated with increased depressed mood
ConclusionsDifficulty in updating positive beliefs (or outcome predictions) for negative cognition may play an important role in depressive symptomatology. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

When do psychosocial explanations of psychiatric problems increase stigma? Self-report and implicit evidence
ConclusionsFurther research is needed to evaluate discrepancies between the present findings and other published evidence pertaining to psychosocial causal explanations of psychiatric problems. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Visuospatial computer game play after memory reactivation delivered three days after a traumatic film reduces the number of intrusive memories of the experimental trauma
ConclusionsWe demonstrated that 3 days after experimental trauma (i.e. after memory consolidation) an intervention comprising a reminder task prior to a 15 min cognitive interference task (one of two computer games) led to a reduction in intrusion occurrence compared to reminder only. We interpret and discuss our findings within the framework of supposed reconsolidation-update mechanisms and competition for limited (visuospatial) working memory resources. Should these effects hold true in clinical populations, this type of simple intervention approach could help contribute to reducing intrusive memories of trauma. (Sourc...

Exposure therapy vs lifestyle intervention to reduce food cue reactivity and binge eating in obesity: A pilot study
ConclusionsThis short exposure therapy reduced snacking behavior, binge eating and weight more than a lifestyle intervention and is therefore a recommendable intervention for obesity and overeating disorders. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Negative verbal self-relevant feedback is recognized with greater accuracy than facial feedback regardless of depression or social anxiety
ConclusionsFindings suggest that the type of social feedback one receives may influence how information is remembered, regardless of symptomatology. Future studies should examine the mechanisms by which memory biases exist for different types of self-relevant feedback. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Preventive efforts in the aftermath of analogue trauma: The effects of tetris and exercise on intrusive images
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that neither a single bout of aerobic exercise, nor playing Tetris without prior memory reactivation, after an analogue trauma reduces stress symptoms. Potential explanations and clinical implications are discussed. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Implicit ‘wanting’ without implicit ‘liking’: A test of incentive-sensitization-theory in the context of smoking addiction using the wanting-implicit-association-test (W-IAT)
ConclusionResults obtained in this study support the assumption that nicotine addiction is linked to a dissociation of ‘wanting’ and ‘liking’ for smoking as postulated by IST. Furthermore, the study provides further evidence that the newly developed W-IAT-is a valid measure of implicit ‘wanting’ that can be used to examine the processes that underlie human reward seeking behavior. A novel virtual reality paradigm: predictors for stress-related intrusions and avoidance behavior
ConclusionThe current VR paradigm can elicit stress-related symptoms, including avoidance; risk factors contributing to these symptoms were similar to those observed in clinical research, indicating the potential of the general set up. Time-intensive behavioural activation for depression: A multiple baseline study
Conclusions cannot be drawn about the generalizability or the long-term durability of the findingsConclusionsOverall this study provides new, but tentative evidence highlighting the potential of time-intensive BA as a feasible, effective and acceptable treatment for some adult outpatients with depression. The findings now warrant further, more rigorous evaluation of the treatment. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)

Does rumination mediate the relationship between attentional control and symptoms of depression?
ConclusionsThese results are consistent with the suggestion that impaired AC, particularly a narrow and inflexible attentional focus, may increase risk of depression by promoting ruminative thinking. The results highlight the importance of considering both self-report and performance measures of AC, as well as different components of attentional performance. Attenuation of access to internal states in high obsessive-compulsive individuals might increase susceptibility to false feedback: Evidence from a visuo-motor hand-reaching task
ConclusionsThese results suggest that in addition to self-perceptions, motor performance of OC individuals is prone to be overly influenced by false feedback, possibly due to attenuated access to proprioceptive cues. These findings may be particularly relevant to understanding the distorted sense of agency in OCD. (Source: Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry)
