Chemoresistance of Gastric-Type Mucinous Carcinoma of the Uterine Cervix: A Study of the Sankai Gynecology Study Group
Objective Gastric-type mucinous carcinoma (GAS) is a novel variant of mucinous carcinoma of the uterine cervix, characterized by aggressive clinical behavior and absence of high-risk human papillomavirus. We conducted this study to evaluate the chemosensitivity of GAS compared with that of usual-type endocervical adenocarcinoma (UEA) in patients who had been enrolled in our previous study. Methods Of 52 patients from our previous phase 2 study (SGSG005) of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with docetaxel and carboplatin for stage IB2 to IIB nonsquamous cervical cancer, 47 (stage IB2, 12; stage IIA2, 7; stage IIB, 28) were enro...

An Evaluation of Frozen Section and Lymph Node Dissection Results for Mucinous Ovarian Tumors
Objectives Intraoperative frozen section has greater than 90% accuracy for ovarian tumors; however, mucinous histology has been shown to be associated with increased frozen section inaccuracy. Recent data demonstrate that primary ovarian mucinous carcinomas have no lymph node involvement, even when extraovarian disease is present, and therefore may not require lymph node dissection. Our primary objective is to evaluate the accuracy of identifying mucinous histology on frozen section. Methods/Materials A cross-sectional review of mucinous ovarian tumors in surgical patients at one institution from 2006 to 2016 was perf...

Dynamic Prediction of Outcome for Patients With Ovarian Cancer: Application of a Joint Model for Longitudinal Cancer Antigen 125 Values
Conclusions Together, our results show that a joint model could be highly efficient in clinical consultation and diagnosis for patients newly diagnosed as having ovarian cancer. Longitudinal CA-125 values, which are measured over time, can be used to credibly predict OS after taking all adjusted covariates into account. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

BRCA Mutation Status Is Not Associated With Increased Hematologic Toxicity Among Patients Undergoing Platinum-Based Chemotherapy for Ovarian Cancer
The objective of this study was to compare the hematologic adverse effect profiles associated with platinum-based chemotherapy in ovarian cancer patients with and without germline BRCA mutations. Methods We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients treated for high-grade serous ovarian cancer at Princess Margaret Cancer Center, Toronto, Ontario between January 2000 and December 2015. We included only women with known BRCA mutation status and who received first-line platinum-based chemotherapy. We compared 3 primary measures of myelosuppression (ie, hemoglobin levels, platelet counts, and neutrophil counts) before e...

Programmed Death Ligand 1 Expression Among 700 Consecutive Endometrial Cancers: Strong Association With Mismatch Repair Protein Deficiency
This study aims to determine the prevalence of programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in endometrial carcinoma (EC) and determine clinical and pathological associations. Methods Immunohistochemistry for PD-L1 was performed on sections of a triple-core tissue microarray of 700 ECs. Positive PD-L1 expression, defined as 1% of cells staining positive, was evaluated in tumor and stromal compartments. Using age-adjusted logistic regression, we estimated odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for associations between PD-L1 expression (overall and by staining compartment) with clinical and tumor characteristics. Kaplan...

A 2-Protein Signature Predicting Clinical Outcome in High-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer
Conclusions CXCL11 combined with HMGA2 signature was a clinically applicable prognostic model that could precisely predict an HGSOC patient's OS and tumor recurrence. This model could serve as an important tool for risk assessment of HGSOC prognosis. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

Palliative Radiation Therapy for Recurrent Ovarian Cancer: Efficacy and Predictors of Clinical Response
This study aimed to report response rates and predictors of response to palliative radiotherapy (RT) for recurrent ovarian cancer. Methods/Materials Database review identified 64 patients with symptomatic ovarian cancer recurrence who received a total of 76 courses of RT for 103 indications from March 2003 to August 2014. Radiotherapy indications were pain (44%), bleeding (32%), obstruction (15%), and other (9%). Responses were categorized as complete, partial, or none; all response (AR) was the sum of complete and partial responses. Response rates were compared using a χ2 test. Multivariate analysis was performed usin...

Setting the Threshold for Surgical Prevention in Women at Increased Risk of Ovarian Cancer
The number of ovarian cancer cases is predicted to rise by 14% in Europe and 55% worldwide over the next 2 decades. The current absence of a screening program, rising drug/treatment costs, and only marginal improvements in survival seen over the past 30 years suggest the need for maximizing primary surgical prevention to reduce the burden of ovarian cancer. Primary surgical prevention through risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) is well established as the most effective method for preventing ovarian cancer. In the UK, it has traditionally been offered to high-risk women (>10% lifetime risk of ovarian cancer) who have...
