Expression and Clinical Significance of Elafin in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Conclusions: Elafin decreased in active patients with IBD and was negatively correlated with disease activity, suggesting that elafin may play a protective role and could be used as an index to evaluate disease activity in IBD. (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Accumulation of HLA-DR4 in Colonic Epithelial Cells Causes Severe Colitis in Homozygous HLA-DR4 Transgenic Mice
Conclusions: The pathogenesis of the colitis observed in the homozygous tgm was likely due to endoplasmic reticulum stress, resulting in goblet cell damage and compromised mucus production in the colonic epithelial cells in which HLA-DR4/I-Ed molecules were heavily accumulated. Commensal bacteria seemed to be involved in the accumulation of HLA-DR4/I-Ed, leading to development of the colitis. (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Targeted Gene Panel Sequencing for Early-onset Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Chronic Diarrhea
Conclusions: Targeted gene panel sequencing is a fast and effective screening method for monogenic causes of eoIBD that should be routinely established in national referral centers. (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Rapid Infliximab Infusion in Children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Multicenter North American Experience
Conclusions: In children with inflammatory bowel disease, rapid IFX infusion administered over 60 minutes is safe and well-tolerated. Antihistamine premedications may reduce frequency of IRs (see Video Abstract, Supplemental Digital Content 1, http://links.lww.com/IBD/B632). (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Findings of Retrograde Contrast Study Through Double-balloon Enteroscopy Predict the Risk of Bowel Resections in Patients with Crohn's Disease with Small Bowel Stenosis
This study aimed to examine whether a retrograde contrast study through DBE could be used as a predictor of subsequent surgery in patients with CD with small intestinal strictures. Methods: The findings of DBE with retrograde contrast in 48 patients CD with small bowel strictures were examined. Results: Of the 48 patients, 14 (29%) underwent surgery for small intestinal strictures during a median observation period of 2.4 years (interquartile range: 1.4–3.7 yr). According to the results of the multivariate analysis, a maximum length of strictures ≥20 mm and the ratio of the maximum diameter of prestenotic dilatio...

Indirect Costs and Family Burden of Pediatric Crohn's Disease in the United States
Background: Crohn's disease (CD) negatively impacts patient quality of life and results in greater healthcare utilization. For pediatric CD patients, the burden also extends to their caregivers. We aimed to estimate work loss and productivity costs among caregivers of pediatric CD patients. Methods: Data were from Truven MarketScan databases (2000–2012). Patients were (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Infliximab Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Changes Clinical Decisions in a Virtual Biologics Clinic for Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Background: Virtual biologics clinics are often used to review patients with inflammatory bowel disease receiving biological therapy, with decisions whether to continue, switch, or stop therapy made based on review of symptoms, disease history, and investigations. We aimed to investigate whether therapeutic drug monitoring of infliximab (IFX) trough levels and anti-drug antibodies influences decision making within a virtual biologics clinic. Methods: For all patients with inflammatory bowel disease receiving IFX maintenance therapy, 2 decisions were recorded in a preset format. The first decision was based on assessme...

Dietary Polyphenols in the Aetiology of Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis—A Multicenter European Prospective Cohort Study (EPIC)
Conclusions: The data supports a potential role of flavones and resveratrol in the risk of developing CD; future aetiological studies should investigate these dietary components and further examine the potential for residual confounding. (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Novel ZBTB24 Mutation Associated with Immunodeficiency, Centromere Instability, and Facial Anomalies Type-2 Syndrome Identified in a Patient with Very Early Onset Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Conclusion: This describes the first case of inflammatory bowel disease associated with immunodeficiency, centromere instability, and facial anomalies type-2 syndrome in a child with a novel disease-causing mutation in ZBTB24 found on whole-exome sequencing. (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Real-world Experience of Anti–tumor Necrosis Factor Therapy for Internal Fistulas in Crohn's Disease: A Retrospective Multicenter Cohort Study
Conclusions: In the present retrospective cohort study, approximately half of patients with internal fistulas avoided surgery for long periods. It may be reasonable to treat quiescent single internal fistulas with anti-TNF agents soon after the diagnosis of internal fistulas. (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Subcutaneous Golimumab in Pediatric Ulcerative Colitis: Pharmacokinetics and Clinical Benefit
We report a multicenter, open-label study of golimumab with a pharmacokinetics phase (week 0–14). Patients had moderately-to-severely active UC and were naive to anti-tumor necrosis factor treatment. At weeks 0 and 2, patients received golimumab induction dosed by weight ( (Source: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases)

Bone Mass Development from Childhood into Young Adulthood in Patients with Childhood-onset Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Conclusions: Male patients with childhood-onset IBD seem to have an increased risk of compromised BMD in young adulthood. Both female and male patients with IBD seem to increase their BMD beyond the age for expected peak bone mass (see Video abstract, Supplemental Digital Content 1, http://links.lww.com/IBD/B648).
