Current Concepts in Management of Postmastectomy Lymphedema
ConclusionCurrently there is no cure for lymphedema. For this reason, further research and better understanding of lymphatic anatomy and lymphedema pathophysiology are needed in order to improve further the conventional as well as the surgical methods. (Source: Hellenic Journal of Surgery)

Can Subfascial Endoscopic Perforator Surgery (SEPS) be Standard of Care in Advanced Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI)?
AbstractSubfascial Endoscopic Perforator Surgery (SEPS) is a minimally invasive technique to treat incompetent perforating veins. Thirty patients with advanced chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) belonging to CEAP clinical class C4 –C6 with incompetent perforating veins in the leg and competent sapheno — femoral junction (SFJ) were subjected to SEPS. Patients with concomitant arterial disease and deep venous thrombosis (DVT) were excluded. Outcomes were evaluated after surgery up to 12 weeks. Out of 12 patients with active ulcer, complete healing was seen in 11 (92%) while one patient had partial healing at the end of 1...

Surgery for Hepatolithiasis: Single Center Experience of 12 Patients
ConclusionRemoval of the stones and resection of the affected liver segment is the best choice in the treatment of hepatolithiasis. However, residual stone fragments may remain in the early postoperative period or recurrence may occur later during follow up period. ERCP and/or PTC may be needed for the treatment of such conditions. For this reason, a multidisciplinary approach is required for the surgical treatment of hepatolithiasis patients, involving gastroenterology and interventional radiology. Enhancing the Critical Role of Core Needle Biopsy in Breast Cancer
AbstractThe aim of this literature review is to derive detailed information on the significance of core needle biopsy in the diagnosis and effective treatment of breast cancer, according to current evidence, in an era of targeted therapy dependent on breast cancer stage and subtype. Preoperative diagnosis by core biopsy is rendered obligatory due to its crucial role not only in precise surgical management but also in segregating patients that often present with complete pathologic response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). Even in the absence of pCR, proper therapeutic management of these patients show significan...

Diagnostic Dilemma Between Todani Type II Choledochal Cyst and Duplication of Gallblader in an Adult Patient
We present a case of a young female patient who was investigated for atypical chronic symptoms. Imaging studies with u/s and MRCP confirmed the presence of a cystic lesion of 5 ×6cm next to the gallbladder which could not be differentiated from choledochal cyst type II or duplication of the gallbladder. It was excised laparoscopically, with concomitant cholecystectomy. On histology, proved to be a choledochal cyst type II. Laparoscopic approach in such cases is feasible a nd should be undertaken cautiously applying the technical tips necessary for patient’s safety. (Source: Hellenic Journal of Surgery)

Laparoscopic Management of Prosthetic Infections Following Laparoscopic Groin Hernioplasty — Experiences from a Tertiary Care Center
ConclusionMesh infections are classified as complicated and uncomplicated, and treatment depends on the type of infection type. Complicated mesh infections following laparoscopic groin hernioplasty often dictate mesh removal, requiring large incisions and the high morbidity of the open approach. However, optimal laparoscopic techniques for such patients would drastically diminish the morbidity and physiological insult without compromising surgical principles. Although large-volume studies are not possible as the incidence of mesh infection is very low, our series supports the feasibility of a laparoscopic approach in these...

Study of the Simplified Prognostic Scoring System in Patients with Fournier ’s Gangrene
ConclusionThe present study reveals that increasing age, high BMI>30, multiple co-morbidities and late presentation with multiple area involvement are associated with high morbidity and increased mortality. Prompt early diagnosis and management may improve the morbidity and mortality of these diseases. (Source: Hellenic Journal of Surgery)

Characteristics, Management and Outcome of Primary Hyperparathyroidism in a Predominantly Vitamin D Deficient Population: A Single-Center Experience
ConclusionPrimary hyperparathyroidism is still a symptomatic disease in Kashmir Valley but now there is a decreasing trend of symptomatic cases and an increasing number of asymptomatic cases with time. 25-hydroxy vitamin D level has no correlation with serum calcium, iPTH and tumour size. Radical Resection of Giant Chondrosarcoma of the Lateral Chest Wall
AbstractGiant chondrosarcomas arising from the lateral chest wall are rare. Wide resection is the only treatment modality which has shown survival benefits. We are reporting a case of a 28-year-old male with a giant chondrosarcoma weighing 8.5 kgs arising from the right lateral chest wall. Radical resection was performed and chest wall was reconstructed using polypropylene mesh and latissimus dorsi flap. (Source: Hellenic Journal of Surgery)

Obstructive Jaundice: A Rare Presentation of Amoebic Liver Abscess
AbstractJaundice is a relatively uncommon finding in amoebic liver abscess and if present, is a marker of abscess erosion into biliary tract. In these cases, other causes of jaundice are secondary infection of amoebic liver abscess (ALA), pressure of the abscess on hepatic ducts, parenchymal damage or, sometimes could be cholestatic in nature. In our case, a twenty-five year-old male student presented with jaundice and fever. There was hepatomegaly and a mass of approximately 8x6 cm protruding into right hypochondrium and epigastrium. Jaundice occurred in this case due to compression of the hepatic ducts confluence by a lar...
