A Possible Role for TNF- α in Coordinating Inflammation and Angiogenesis in Chronic Liver Disease and Hepatocellular Carcinoma.
CONCLUSIONS: VEGF signaling could be one of the molecular signaling pathways involved in TNF-α induced angiogenesis which might pose an important link between inflammation and fibrosis in CHC and HCC development and progression. Moreover, serum inflammatory biomarkers can be used to monitor the disease progression. PMID: 24147158 [PubMed] (Source: Gastrointestinal Cancer Research)

Gastrointestinal cancer surgery in patients with a prior ventriculoperitoneal shunt: the department of veterans affairs experience.
CONCLUSION: We believe this is the first report analyzing the clinical course of adults with VP shunts who later had major abdominal cancer surgery. The presence of a shunt was associated with dense adhesions in 1 (14%) of the 7 patients in this series, but not with an increased risk of postoperative complications. A phase 2 trial of ixabepilone plus cetuximab in first-line treatment of metastatic pancreatic cancer.
CONCLUSIONS: The combination of ixabepilone and cetuximab was active and had acceptable toxicity. The efficacy results are similar to single-agent ixabepilone and gemcitabine-based combination therapies in patients with advanced pancreatic cancer. Exploratory analyses suggest a trend toward improved survival for patients who experienced rash. PMID: 23112883 [PubMed] (Source: Gastrointestinal Cancer Research)
