The burden of witnessing death and disability, mastering complex of work duties, long and irregular hours, the threats of errors, and tensions between colleagues result in emotional strain, anxiety, depression, burnout and in the worst case: suicide.1-5 The residual symptoms from exposure to workplace stress may result in second victim syndrome. Additional practice of yoga breathing with intermittent breath holding enhances psychological functions in yoga practitioners: a randomized controlled trial
Mind-body interventions are found to be useful to managing stress (Deckro  et al., 2002). Yoga, a noted mind-body intervention has been found useful to manage stress and enhance performance (Saoji, 2016; Saoji, Mohanty,& Vinchurkar, 2017). Among various dimensions of yoga practices, Pranayama is an important aspect wherein voluntary regulation of the breathing is performed, while paying mindful attention (Saraswati,  2002). There are various yoga breathing techniques described in the yoga scriptures with their potential benefits (Muktibodhananda, 2002). (Source: Explore)

Awesome piece on immigration in the healthcare workforce. So thoughtful and sensible. We have long had a bias in graduate medical education that a high proportion of non-US grads was a marker of a poor program. Around 50% of Family Medicine and Internal Medicine residents are non-US grads, which is a pretty significant contribution to our residency programs. (Source: Explore)

Why Doesn't America Like Its Children?
“There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children,” So said Nelson Mandela at the launch of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, and he was right.1 Equally, it goes without saying that a nation's children are its future. So it would follow, one wo uld assume, that any rational social policy would emphasis the care and nurturing of children. But it does not follow. By any one of a dozen social outcome data assessments, America doesn't like its children, and is making no preparations for their future. (Source: Explore)
