Mortality and causes of death among people who inject amphetamine: a long-term follow-up cohort study from a needle exchange program in Sweden
Abuse of amphetamine and amphetamine-type central nervous system (CNS) stimulants like methamphetamine, is a worldwide problem. The global number of amphetamine users is estimated to around 34 million, and amphetamines comprise the second most common group of illicit drugs after cannabis (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, 2015). In Sweden, amphetamine is the most commonly used substance among people who inject drugs (PWID) (The Swedish Council for Information on Alcohol and Other Drugs, 2014). Adolescent smokers ’ response to reducing the nicotine content of cigarettes: Acute effects on withdrawal symptoms and subjective evaluations
Cigarette smoking is one of the leading causes of preventable death worldwide (WHO, 2015), and smokers on average lose ten years of life expectancy compared to nonsmokers (Thun et al., 2013). The vast majority of adult cigarette smokers begin smoking in adolescence (USDHHS, 2013) and early smoking onset is correlated with increased dependence and greater risk for smoking-related disease and death (Jha et al., 2013; Kendler et al., 2013; Marshall et al., 2006). As of 2016, 18.2% of high schoolers in the United States had ever tried cigarettes (Johnston et al., 2017). (Source: Drug and Alcohol Dependence)

Continuous opioid substitution treatment over five years: Heroin use trajectories and outcomes
Oral methadone or buprenorphine are the first-line medical therapies for opioid use disorder (OUD). These opioid substitution treatments (OST) are consistently associated with abstinence from illicit opioid use (e.g., Hubbard et al., 2003; Gossop et al., 2003; Teesson et al., 2006), a lowered risk of opioid overdose (White et al., 2015), and reductions in criminal behaviour (Gossop et al., 2005). Aggregate statistical results may, however, mask differential clinical response among sub-populations. (Source: Drug and Alcohol Dependence)

Adolescent dual-product users: Acquisition and situational use of cigarettes and cigars
Rates of cigarette and cigar, cigarillo, and little cigar (CCLC) use have been declining over the last two decades among adolescents, and rates of current use of both products among high school students are similar, with 10.8% reporting cigarette use and 10.3% for CCLC (Kann et al., 2016). Further, 43.0% of adolescents (12-17 years old) who currently use tobacco report using more than one tobacco product. Cigarette and cigarillo use is the second most common combination of tobacco products for 10.1% of adolescent users of multiple types of tobacco; among multiple tobacco product users, 14% of youth and 22% of adults report...

Do serum markers of liver fibrosis vary by HCV infection in patients with alcohol use disorder?
Excessive alcohol consumption is the third leading cause of premature death in western countries, and cirrhosis of the liver accounts for approximately 1% to 2% of all deaths in Europe. Alcohol use disorder (AUD) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection frequently co-occur (Shoreibah et al., 2014; Singal et al., 2011). In fact, alcohol and HCV infection are the leading causes of end-stage liver disease and the most common indication for liver transplant in the US and Europe (Zakhari, 2013). Prevalence and correlates of adolescents ’ e-cigarette use frequency and dependence
Electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use has eclipsed cigarette smoking among adolescents in the United States (Johnston et al., 2018). E-cigarette use predicts subsequent smoking initiation (Best et al., 2017; Conner et al., 2017; Hammond et al., 2017; Leventhal et al., 2015; Lozano et al., 2017; Primack et al., 2015; Wills et al., 2017), especially among those who would otherwise be at low risk for smoking (Best et al., 2017; Conner et al., 2017; Wills et al., 2017). E-cigarettes have many features (e.g., flavors, devices, nicotine levels) that differentiate them from cigarettes and that may be associated with problematic ...
