Correlation of PET-CT, MRI and histopathology findings in the follow-up of patients with nasopharyngeal cancer
ConclusionsMagnetic resonance imaging and positron emission-computed tomography should be evaluated together in the follow-up of nasopharyngeal cancer. Patients with minimal SuvMax 4.58 on positron emission-computed tomography after contrast enhancement in the T2 sequence on magnetic resonance imaging may considered appropriate for biopsy. Biopsies in patients with a SuvMax value lower than 4.58 can be avoided. Thus, patients avoid surgical stress and unnecessary costs.

Difference between CD25+Tregs and Helios+Tregs in a murine model of allergic rhinitis
ConclusionThis is the first report of the proportions of Helios+Tregs in nasal mucosa and spleens of allergic rhinitis mice. Gating true inhibitory Tregs with the coexpression of Foxp3 and Helios might be more useful than relying on the expression of CD25. This study provides a new insight for Treg studies of allergic rhinitis, and the potential utility of the marker as a therapeutic target.

The role of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in the metastasis and development of hypopharyngeal carcinoma
ConclusionThe expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and 9 in hypopharyngeal carcinoma was significantly higher than that in pericarcinoma tissue, and it was enhanced with the increase of clinical stage. The expression level was related to lymph node metastasis and tumor pathological stage. Thus, matrix metalloproteinase-2 and 9 may be involved in the occurrence, development, invasion and metastasis of hypopharyngeal carcinoma through a variety of mechanisms. ObjetivosObse...

The characteristics of otoacoustic emissions in full-term neonates according to ABO blood groups
ConclusionFemale individuals with blood group O have lower otoacoustic emissions values than individuals with the other three blood groups. We need to further investigate the possible relationships between ABO blood group and cochlear function, including the potential influences of noise damage on cochlear outer hair cells.

Clinical characteristics for conservative therapy of pediatric parapharyngeal abscesses
ConclusionThe findings suggested that younger age, smaller abscess size, and less frequent antecedent illnesses, such as upper respiratory tract infection and lymphadenitis, could predict a successful response to conservative therapy in pediatric patients with parapharyngeal abscesses.

Pharyngeal motility in patients submitted to type I thyroplasty
ConclusionPharyngeal motility is affected by thyroplasty Type I in patients with dysphagia and low vagal injury.

Assessment of HPV 16, HPV 18, p16 expression in advanced stage laryngeal cancer patients and prognostic significance
ConclusionThe close relationship between HPV and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma could not be shown in larynx malignancy in many studies, including our study. Our findings support a limited role of HPV in laryngeal carcinogenesis. Protein16 is not a reliable surrogate for HPV status in laryngeal cancers and is not a predictor of laryngeal cancer survival. Supraglottic localization of tumor was determined to be increased in protein16 positive cases. The correlation between protein16 positivity and supraglottic area location was determined to be statistically significant. There is a need for more populated clinical tri...

Acute tissue damage induced by monopolar microelectrodes and radiofrequency in vocal cords after transoral cordectomy
ConclusionMicroelectrodes and radiofrequency in transoral laryngeal surgery produced mild tissue damage and offer an excellent alternative to the use of high frequency energy.

Individuals with peripheral vestibulopathy and poor quality of sleep are at a higher risk for falls
ConclusionIndividuals with peripheral vestibulopathies and poor quality of sleep demonstrate worse balance evidenced by increased postural instability, higher risk of falls and worse perceived quality of life. The quality of sleep is a predictive factor for worse perceived quality of life and for higher risk of falls in individuals with peripheral vestibulopathies.
