Triple-phase multidetector computed tomography:an evaluation of hepatic space occupying lesion in cirrhotic patients
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common tumor with an incidence of 1 - 6 % among cirrhotic patients. Dysplastic nodule often occurs within regenerative cirrhotic nodules. They can show low or high grade dysplasia. MRI best differentiates this iso-or hypo intense lesion from hyper intense HCC. The current study was designed to assess the usefulness of Triple-phase multiphasic multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) in evaluation of hepatic space occupying lesion in cirrhotic patients. This cross sectional study was carried out in Radiology and Imaging department in collaboration with Hepatology and Hepatobiliary surgery ...

Current Trend of Caesarean Section in a Tertiary Care Military Hospital
Caesarean section rates are increasing worldwide. It contributes to substantial maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.South Asian countries including Bangladesh have recorded substantial increases in caesarean sectionrates over the past decade. In Bangladesh, the caesarean incidence rate was 2.6 percent in 2001 and 12.2 percent in 2010. So, the incidence rate increased five times over the last decade. This descriptive cross sectional study was conducted at Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Savar, Dhaka during January 2014 to December 2015, aimed to assess the current trend of mode of deliveries of babies. Risk Factors of Major Depressive Disorder in Parkinson ’s Disease
Depression in idiopathic Parkinson ’s disease is highly prevalent that can significantly impair the quality of life. Its exact mechanism of development is still poorly understood. It is well studied in western population but data from Asia especially in the South Asian region is limited. Considering this, to identify the potential risk factors of depression,a cross-sectional study was conducted among Parkinson’s disease patients attending a tertiary care hospital in Bangladesh between July 2013-June 2014, in the Department of Neurology, ShaheedSuhrawardy Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh. One hundred th...

Kawasaki Disease Hospitalization: Outcomes in Two Tertiary Care Hospitals in Bangladesh
Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute self-limiting inflammatory disease associated with vasculities, affecting predominantly medium sized vessels and encountered these cases infrequently in clinical practice. The most concerning complication is coronary artery aneurysm (CAA) leading to myocardial infarction or sudden death. Fever is the essential feature. Kawasaki disease is invariably associated with an inflammatory process with elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and white blood cell count. Early recognition and treatment with IVIG (Intravenous venous immunoglobulin), and Aspirin showed h...

Evaluation of Transpedicular Surgical Decompression withLong Segment Stabilization in Thoracic and Thoracolumbar SpinalTuberculosis
Pott ’s disease is a common cause of neurological complications and kyphotic deformity. When deformity progressed that may lead to painful costo-pelvic impingement, respiratory distress, risk of paralysis of muscle of lower limb and consequent reduction in quality andlongevity oflife. The treatmentstrat egy is to avoid neurological complication and achieve a near normal spine. In tuberculosis, spinal column may become unstable. Pathological fracture or dislocation of a diseased vertebral body may occur due to mechanical insult. Surgical decompression causefurther instability. The insertion of a meta llic implant is to prov...

Antibiotic Resistance Pattern and Stewardship Programme in Critical Care Settings
Sensitivity pattern of isolates from patients ’ specimens associated with infection, admitted to the critical care centers with empiric or prophylactic antibiotic use were assessed. Till identification of the organism and resultant sensitivity awaited; and compared with sensitive antibiotic to the isolates which could be used for management. This analytical cross sectional study carried out during the period of April 2016 to July 2016 in the Critical Care Centre (CCC) of Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka Cantonment. Urine and other specimens including wound swab, pus, sputum, tracheal aspirate, catheter tip, nasal swab, ...

Evaluation of Neck Mass by Multidetector Computed Tomography and Histopathological Comparison.
Diagnostic usefulness of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) scan in the evaluation of neck mass was assessed in this study in terms of sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value and accuracy in respect to characterise the lesion as benign and malignant, based on different parameters by comparing computed tomography and histopathological findings. This cross sectional study was carried out on 57 patients in the Department of Radiology and Imaging, Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital, Dhaka from January 2014 to December 2015, with a 16 slice multidetector CT scanner and the reports...

Clinical Accuracy of Electronic Apex Locator in Measuring Working Length during Root Canal Treatment
Obtaining a correct working length is critical to success of endodontic therapy. The procedure for establishment of working length should be performed using techniques that have been proven to give valuable and accurate results and methods that are practical and efficacious. The development of the electronic apex locator has helped to assess the working length more accurate and predictable. So the objective of this in vivo-ex vivo study was to evaluate the clinical accuracy of electronic apex locator in measuring the working length of the root canal in vivo, and comparing the lengths so measured, to the actual working leng...

Morphological Variations of the Liver in Autopsies of the Iranian Population
Knowledge about the variations in liver is essential for surgeons and radiologists, so as to prevent wrong interpretation and diagnosis. So far, no data are available on the standard characteristics of normal liver in the Iranian population. Hence, the aim of this study was to evaluate the standard data of a normal liver including weight, length, width, thickness and lobes variations of the liver of Iranians. This cross sectional study was perfomed on 600 cadavers in Mashhad Legal Medicine Center in 2016. After obtaining demographic characteristics of cadavers, the weight, length, width, thickness and variations of the liv...

Association of Platelet Parameters in Acute Coronary Syndrome before and after Anti-platelet Therapy
In this study, the baseline characteristics of study patients were measured. Platelet counts were 273.1 ±50.15 x 109/L in patients with ACS and 290.78±74.86 x 109/L in control subjects in 1st sample and 284.56 ±41.93 x 109/L in patients with ACS in 2nd sample. In 1st samples, platelet counts were slightly low in patients with ACS compared to controls and 2nd samples. There were no statistical significant differences between the groups and the samples. MPV was 12.48 ±1.17 fl and 10.45±0.66 fl in patients with ACS and controls and 11.55±1.08 fl in 2nd sample in ACS cases. PDW was 16.23 ±2.56 fl, 11.89±1.42 fl and 14....
