Outcome with topical sirolimus for port wine stain malformations after unsatisfactory results with pulse dye laser treatment alone
We report five PWS cases that were treated with PDL initially, followed by 0.5-1% topical sirolimus. With dual therapy there was significant improvement over a shorter duration. More published studies of topical sirolimus are needed to clarify the role of dual therapy in managing PWS associated with capillary malformations. We encourage further prospective and comparative studies with a larger sample size. SIMILAR CASES PUBLISHED: 1   (Source: Annals of Saudi Medicine)

Perceptions of confidence among Saudi nursing interns during internship program: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Gaining knowledge that the gender, length of intern.ship and area of training affect the perceptions of the Saudi nursing interns towards self-efficacy can help preceptors formulate better strategies in developing nursing intern competence and gaining self-efficacy as they move from the academic to clinical nursing practice. The knowledge gathered in this study should be beneficial to nursing administrators, faculty, and mentors/preceptors. LIMITATIONS:Results may not be generalizable due to the limitations in the setting and there are other factors not included in the study that may have explained varianc...

Molecular characteristics of colorectal cancer in a Middle Eastern population in a single institution
CONCLUSION: The RAS mutation rate was similar to Western and East Asian countries, but not for the BRAF mutation and MMR deficiency. We also found a prognostic effect for sex in the RAS wild-type group, a finding worthy of further exploration.  LIMITATIONS:Retrospective, single center and small sample size. Expression of MSH6 and PMS2 not analyzed. CONFLICT OF INTEREST:None.  (Source: Annals of Saudi Medicine)

Timing of orchidopexy at a tertiary center in Saudi Arabia: reasons for late surgery
CONCLUSIONS:The age at the time of surgery at our center was far from ideal because of late referrals. A structured program offered by our National Health Service to educate referring physicians is necessary. Community health initiatives must emphasize prompt referral to reduce the impact of delayed surgery. LIMITATIONS:Lack of data on the type of referring physician (i.e., general practitioner, pediatrician, surgeon, urologist). CONFLICT OF INTEREST:None.   (Source: Annals of Saudi Medicine)

Follicular thyroid carcinoma within a thyroglossal duct cyst in adult
In this study, a 33-year-old man presented with a typical thyroglossal duct cyst and underwent surgical resection of the cyst, which was determined to be follicular carcinoma. We have reported this rare case to increase the awareness of such entities within the general otolaryngology and the community of head and neck surgeons, as well as among endocrine surgeons. NO.
