A level or Access course for a mature student?
Hi everyone! I am 30 years old and in full time employment with the NHS. I am interested in taking up the Access to Dentistry course but I have some queries about their entry requirements. "Applicants who have completed a level 3 course (A-levels or equivalent or Baccalaureates) within the last two years will not be considered." Does anyone know why applicants with a recent A level are not considered? I would like to take up dentistry and it has been more than 10 years since I completed my GCSE studies. My intentions are to take up part-time Chemistry and Biology A levels to increase my confidence whilst obtai...

Please someone advise me what to do......
Hello People.... Basically i am a Biomedical Science student, hoping to achieve a 1st, if not a high 2:1. Unfortunately due to my time at University what should have taken me four years to complete (Foundation year included) will now take six years because of a year being wasted after stupidly failing a unit in first year and second year. Doesnt sound impressive i know but the only consolation i can take is that the first year doesn't count to the classification of my degree and the second year only has a very small weighting with an option of third year being the most vital. When my first year from university was waste...

UKCAT was dissappointing, lost on where to apply to!
So to start off here is a little of my academic background: GSCE's were fine (8 A, 4 A*) I previously applied to study medicine at A-levels and got a place at HYMS but missed my grades big time (BBB) in biology, chemistry and maths. I'm currently studying Chemistry BSc. and got a first in my second year and about to enter my third year aiming to do the same. An insight into my work experience: Spent time working in a hospital and a physiotherapy department in a blind and deaf school. Both of which were in India. GP shadowing in Ireland Shadowed an osteopath. Worked with an NHS commissioning group in London, re-c...

The BEST GAMSAT resources
Hey there:), I'm not due to take this for a while but I'll be taking it next year, for myself, in order to see how I perform and get an insight into what it's like. Anyway, I was wondering which books/ resources etc have helped you SIGNIFICANTLY in your preparation for this test. In other words what resources are ESSENTIAL/KEY to ones preparation for the GAMSAT. Thank you very much. Shared Elective Experiences
Hi all, I was hoping someone could share their own journey of their elective. Is it something completely down to you to organize and arrange or does your Medical School facilitate the elective period in any way? I'm very keen on seeing the Medical world in Canada specifically in the French speaking areas to really practice my semi-fluent French. I was hoping if anyone has had a similar experience of electives in a foreign environment, language wise, and if it really made a difference to their language skills? Secondly, I am a fifth year student in Scotland just about to start my highers ( Chemistry, Maths, Human Biology, English and Art.) My results from my nationals ( approximate GCSE equivalents ) were all A's so I think I should be capable of meeting the academic requirements for studying medicine. I have been thinking about doing medicine for a while now and have read a lot about it but I wanted to hear from some people who were studying medicine/in the medical profession. Ok so I don't have A levels in Science subjects, I am 33 years old, have a 1 year old daughter and have just left the military. Basically all the reasons I have not applied before are now gone! E.g debt, military career, nerves. No I want to do this. Just wanted to say WELL DONE TO US OLD FOLKS!!!!! UK students studying GEM in Ireland
Hi All I am considering applying to Irish GEM next year but since I’m a UK resident I just wanted to ask if there are any UK students who could share their experience and answer my questions below. From what I gather, offers are given out late July/early August and term starts early September. I was wondering how UK students managed this. Did they just take a gamble and start arranging things early – give notice, find accommodation etc? Did people manage to visit the universities before applying or was their decisions based on the websites, prospectuses, forums etc? I’m not sure I will be able to attend any of the...

Medics with health issues- syncope/bradycardia/pacemakers
Im a 4th yr medic and have been experiencing syncope/ pre syncope symptoms for some years now. Tests showed severe bradycardia and insertion of a pacemaker is highly likely. However, sodium tablets and fludrocortisonse are being tried as they have helped increase my bp as that too is low. My question is are there doctors with any similar problems or anyone with a pacemaker? does it affect your career? Are there any restrictions regarding syncope/ pacemaker implantation for doctors? Especially if involved with occupational health? any advice is highly appreciated! (Source: New Media Medicine)

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- A winless day left the top-seeded United States with the feeling there's nothing left to lose in their quest to capture the International Crown Yani Tseng made a 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to give Taiwan a sweep of the Americans in the opening round of the 32-player, eight-team tournament Thursday. Tseng and Phoebe Yao never trailed in a 1-up win over Stacy Lewis and Lexi Thompson after Candie Kung and Teresa Lu beat Paula Creamer and Cristie Kerr 4 and 3. Living cost loan confusion for GEM
Hello. Sorry to create a whole thread just for this question, but the living cost loan has me bamboozled. So I understand that in the 1st year, maximum living cost loan is up to 5,555 (outside London but in England - which is where I'm looking). Simple enough. However, on the student finance.gov.uk website, I can get a maximum of only 3,862 on their calculator.
