Iodine-125 Radioactive Seed Brachytherapy As a Treatment for Spine and Bone Metastases: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Iodine-125 (125I) seed brachytherapy (BT) involves image-guided placement of radioactive 125I seeds directly into a tumor lesion. The 125I seed can continuously deliver low dose radiation over long periods of time, with sparing of collateral tissue. It has been safe and efficacious in treating various malignancies. This systematic review evaluated the safety, analgesic efficacy, and local tumor control of 125I seed BT in managing spine and bone metastases.
