UNISON praises police decision to retain COVID protections

UNISON has welcomed yesterday’s decision by the National Police Chiefs Council for England and Wales to keep all existing COVID-19 protections in place for the police workforce after 19 July. Together with the other police staff unions and the staff associations, UNISON met with senior police leaders earlier this week and a consensus emerged that existing police COVID health and safety protections should stay in place for the protection of our members, and of the general public following the lifting of all COVID-19 restrictions by the Westminster government from Monday in England. National officer for police and probation Ben Priestley said: “UNISON applauds the clear and decisive decision taken by the National Police Chiefs Council at its meeting this week to keep all existing COVID health and safety protections in place for policing after 19 July. “Recognising the danger to police operational capability and to the police workforce of rising infection rates – and rising self-isolation – the council has demonstrated real leadership in protecting its workforce, and the general public, at a time when government relaxation of COVID rules threatens all of our health and safety.” Find out more about UNISON representing police and justice staff The article UNISON praises police decision to retain COVID protections first appeared on the UNISON National site.
