To say that 2020 has been an unusual year would be a vast understatement – and this certainly applies to the Southern Surgical Association (SSA). Canceling this year’s annual meeting was an agonizing decision, but not a unique one for the SSA. The 1942 annual meeting is the only other to be cancelled since the first annual meeting of the SSA 132 years ago, most likel y due to events surrounding World War II.
