Regarding “Patient Discharge without an Order to Void in the Outpatient Gynecologic Surgery Setting”

The piece of Editorial on dismissing a trial of voiding prior to discharging patients undergoing same day surgery [1] was intriguing. Tracing back to its original research, Samimi et al [2] suggests that the rate of readmission due to post-discharge urinary retention is very low, and is similar between patients with or without an order to void. However, recounting a case of severe postoperative urinary retention (POUR), we believe otherwise and would like to share that particular experience with the readers.
