LGPS survey: local authorities adapting slowly to COVID-19

A survey of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), taken in mid-May, shows how local authorities are adapting to COVID-19. Run on behalf of the England and Wales Scheme Advisory Board, 83 local authorities took part. It found that 27% of schemes are having virtual pension committee meetings, yet 61% have not reached the stage of going beyond the planning of meetings. Only 51% of local authorities have reviewed their registers. There were changes to 42 councils, which indicated they were dealing with member contributions and changes to investment returns. Overall, UNISON hopes to see the process improve as the response to the situation is dealt with and we adapt to such significant changes. The full survey results can be found here.
