Face coverings for the lay public: an alternative view, CEBM

Several people have written to ask about the review on the Covid-19 Evidence website ' 2 External 0 0 0 Masks on or off false https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/covid-19-masks-on-or-off/ true false%>' . In that review, Carl Heneghan and Tom Jefferson summarised the findings from a systematic review initially published in 2011 and updated this year. That review was mostly focused on medical masks for healthcare workers but also looked at randomised controlled trials of masks and face coverings for the lay public. Heneghan and Jefferson ' s interpretation of that evidence was that there is insufficient evidence to support mask-wearing by members of the public. They also speculated that masks could cause harm.
