Safety and Efficacy of Prophylactic Closed Incision Negative Pressure Therapy after Acute Fracture Surgery

Soft tissue swelling after trauma with orthopaedic interventions is a crucial challenge for surgeons. Soft tissue swelling can increase wound dehiscence and risk of developing a postoperative infection along with cause a delay in early range of motion [1,2]. Common treatment for post-traumatic soft tissue swelling include use of ice and compression. In 2006, Stannard et al. began applying negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) to open and surgically repaired high-energy fractures with positive clinical benefit [3,4].
