Toward an Improved Wrist View: Qualitative and Quantitative Investigation of the 20 ° Axial Lateral Wrist X-Ray

The wrist joint is a region of complex anatomy due to multiple bones articulating with each other [1 –4]. At the radiocarpal joint the scaphoid, the lunate and triquetrum articulate with the distal radius [1,2]. Extensive work over the past seven decades has been performed to attempt to improve the visualization of the wrist anatomy on two-dimensional plain radiographs [3,5,6]. The current protoc ol in our region is typical and includes three projections: posteroanterior (full pronation), posteroanterior-oblique (lateral rotation), and lateral (lateromedial).
