MCAT and Undergraduate vs. Residency Placement

by JMirza (Posted Sat Oct 26, 2013 10:59 pm)The sub-scores of the MCAT that I wrote were the following:6 VR, 7 PS, and 7 BSI highly doubt its dyslexia, because I can score very well on university level tests. The real essence of my problem is learning to apply the concepts.Maybe my thoughts are just clouded while I'm under a timed test. During undergraduate tests, I usually have a strong sense of what areas the professor will focus upon during the midterm, the way he will ask the questions, etc. The MCAT has a similar style of applying concepts for each section, but, as the same time, a lot of variability.Surprisingly, the verbal reasoning section has always been my weak point. The answer choices literally seem so close and correct, and with the time given to analyze each question, its difficult to pin point each answer. I think I get double minded while I am answering questions, and so when I narrow down two answer choices, identifying the correct answer out of the two seems impossible- at the same time, there is no way of definitely knowing which answer is correct, as it says, "choose the BEST answer."Also, I never read for leisure, other than what was assigned in Highschool etc. I think that was a big factor as well. Will I encounter the same difficulty while attempting the USMLE, or will I be better able to deal with these kind of questions with better accuracy? Thanks once again Percy, I really appreciate all your time and help.
